Expert 2023 Kia K5 review

our expert's take

our expert's take

What Is the 2023 Kia K5?

The Kia K5 is a mid-size sedan with a swept-back shape that helps it stand out among rivals like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima. Most versions of the K5 are motivated by a turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder that sends 180 horsepower to the front wheels in most trims or to all four when all-wheel drive is added to the GT-Line. Strangely, the 290-hp, turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder available in the top-of-the-line K5 GT can only be had with front-wheel drive.

What’s New on the 2023 Kia K5?

The entry-level LX trim has been discontinued, and the LXS trim can no longer have AWD. The GT-Line model gets a Panoramic Roof Package that includes LED cabin lighting. The GT-Line AWD gets a standard heated steering wheel, and all but the LXS get acoustic front-door glass.

What Features in the 2023 Kia K5 Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Two USB ports
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Forward collision warning
  • Driver drowsiness monitor
  • Pedestrian detection

Available features include:

  • Panoramic moonroof
  • 25-inch touchscreen
  • Remote start
  • Navigation
  • Satellite radio
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Sport-tuned suspension (GT)
  • Surround-view parking camera
  • Bose stereo
  • Heated and cooled front seats
  • Wireless device charging
  • AWD (GT-Line only)

Should I Buy the 2023 Kia K5?

The Kia K5 makes a strong case for itself thanks to its sleek styling and value-conscious content. Granted, unless you spring for the K5 GT and its 290-hp powertrain, this Kia’s performance is more mild than wild. Optional AWD may persuade shoppers otherwise drawn to SUVs, and the K5’s nicely balanced ride makes it a comfy traveling companion. Rear headroom could be a problem, however, and we still can’t understand why the optional 10.25-inch infotainment screen isn’t compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Had a 23 gtline nothing but issues with the trim. Had 15 parts replaced and factory tires bald at 17 k. Never again. Looks nice but that's it. Thought kia stepped their game up but not the quality of the product.

  • GO BUY THE K5

I LOVE my 2023 KIa K5 GT-Line. I have the Passion Red, and I must say it’s a very sexy color. The panoramic sunroof is my favorite feature. The K5 rides so smooth and handles very well. If you’re considering this car…don’t hesitate any longer. GO BUY IT!!!

  • Awesome K5 Gt Line

I love my Kia K5 Gt Line! White with Red Interior which was hard to find. I traded my Hyundai Elantra because we travel a lot and our backs hurt. Now I enjoyed my Elantra but the K5 has the larger bolsters on the seats and it rides great being a mid size! Our 10 hour trips once a month are much easier now! Styling is great and all the options and safety features are awesome! Plus the full warranty can’t be beat! Thanks Bedford Kia for finding my car!

  • Great deal and value for the price!

Too early to rate reliability, but so far I'm loving my 2023 K5 GT-Line. I absolutely love the styling and interior, though the seats are not the best I've been in (though not bad), and I have a hard time seeing the turn signal indicators even with the wheel tilted all the way up (I'm 5' 11"). Power with the base engine is adequate, and I'm thrilled that it does NOT have a CVT - it's got a good old torque converter-style 8 speed transmission. Gas mileage is better than rated by the EPA. Good tech and a very good set of safety features. I few nits to pick, but overall for the price I feel this is the best value in a sedan on the market today. Did I mention I love the styling?

  • Fun and awesomely equipped car!

I purchased a 2023 K5 GT (GT1 package) with the upgraded engine with approximately 290HP. The car is well worth the money, as it’s priced very competitively with cars in the same class with similar features and horsepower. The car is under 40K fully loaded. Pertaining to that price point, It was difficult finding a car with the following features: surround view camera, panoramic sunroof, satellite navigation, HomeLink, ventilated seats, power driver and passenger seats, back seat vents for heats and cooling, sensing trunk open, remote start (not app only, but on key fob). This car has all those features for under 40K! Plus, it’s fun to drive, looks nice with quad exhaust tips and the chestnut brown interrupt. And the car has full LED lights…even inside the cabin. It’s a great value, good looking, and fun car to drive.

  • A great car for the price.

Finally a mid priced sedan, with security features and options normally only found in higher end, and more expensive cars. Putting a 1.6 liter Engine in, then adding Turbo to it, is an incredible combination for both power, and fuel economy.

  • Comparing to my 2022 Stinger Scorpion

While not as fast off the line as the Stinger , this sedan has plenty of scoot for every day driving in USA. GT has all the bells and whistles I wanted. Surround view is nice. Two tone interior is nice. The configuration software is more like the Stinger than the Sorento. Nice seats with plenty of leg room, shoulder room. Nice sun/moon roof. Trunk is huge. Finish is really nice. Bose stereo is awesome.

  • Amazing car, Top Notch Luxury

Bought the car this past october. The gray wolf version GT, which is an amazing color. The car is quite something with an amazing amount of features. It has a slick design to it. Engine is very powerful, the GT version that is. The non-gt version engine is fine for the everyday driver. If you want to move get the GT. Not really a comparison with speed, but both are fine. GT comes with slick red stitching that looks nice. Truck space is plenty big which was surprising to me. Cooling and heating seats are awesome, and the pad charger for phones is another sweet feature. The only negative is the software on the screen. It is slow, and clunky. They need to clean that up. Apple car play on the car is slow responsiveness and at times can be delayed by 5 mins for GPS tracking. It is their software because I've tested my phone on multiple car play's.

  • SERIOUSLY NICE

Love this car. Have the K5 GT LINE. I’ve Had it about a month thus far. It is a sport sedan with luxury interior. It is easily comparable to a BMW/Lexus/MB for 15k less. It’s very safe and has EVERY safety feature you can find. It has eco/standard/Sport/Custom settings and let me tell you….. I get 37 mpg in eco and the sport is FAST. It’s a low car though. I have a truck as another car and I kept whacking my head. Haha. Worth every penny in my mind. Check it out. If you find one scoop it up. They go fast
