Volvo

Volvo, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a subsidiary of Chinese automaker Geely. Volvo's name is synonymous with safety; it pioneered features like three-point safety belts, rear-facing child seats and side-impact airbags. The company still ranks among the safest brands, though several other automakers now achieve overall safety scores comparable to Volvo’s.

Volvo's SUVs include the subcompact XC40, compact XC60 and three-row XC90. On the sedan side, Volvo offers the S60 and S90; both have wagon equivalents in the V60 and the V90. Volvo's plug-in hybrid lineup is extensive; the drivetrain is offered in the S60, S90, V60, XC60 and XC90.

Though Volvo spun off its Polestar brand as an electrified-vehicle marque, Volvo itself offers an expanding lineup of all-electric vehicles. The subcompact C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge SUVs were respectively renamed EC40 and EX40 for the 2025 model year, and a new generation of electric SUVs kicks off for 2025 with the EX30 and three-row EX90.
