Key Points

  • Pricing for the 2026 Honda Civic Type R starts at $48,090 (price includes $1,195 destination charge).
  • No major changes for the 2026 model year
  • 315-horsepower hatchback only available with six-speed manual transmission

Few cars demonstrate the bandwidth of their manufacturer better than the Honda Civic. Available as a hatchback and a sedan, the base model is comprehensively and unassumingly excellent, even at its base price of less than $26,000. In hybrid form, the Civic adds fuel economy of nearly 50 mpg to its laundry list of strengths. And then there are the enthusiast icons, the 200-hp Civic Si and 315-hp Civic Type R. The latter is unchanged for 2026, though its base price increases $1,000 from the 2025 model.

Release Date and Pricing

The 2026 Honda Civic Type R will go on sale soon. A single-spec variant with no trim levels (since the Type R is the trim), it starts at $48,090.

Trim Levels and Safety Features

It might cost nearly double what a base Civic does, but the 2026 Civic Type R comes fully loaded. Standard features include LED exterior lighting, keyless entry and start, a limited-slip differential, adaptive dampers and matte-black 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S high-performance summer tires. The cabin boasts aggressively bolstered front sport seats with synthetic-suede upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, red ambient lighting, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a 9-inch touchscreen with navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist systems is standard on the Civic Type R. Featured technologies include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-centering steering, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, road-sign recognition, a driver-attention monitor and automatic high beams.

Mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission, the four-cylinder sends power to the front wheels only. The 2026 Civic Type R returns an estimated 22/28/24 mpg city/highway/combined (official EPA ratings for 2026 are not yet available).
