Expert 2027 Kia Telluride review

Our expert's take
By Aaron Bragman
Full article
kia telluride 2027 exterior oem 39 jpg

Key Points

  • Completely redesigned for the 2027 model year with new styling, a new interior, more space and an upcoming hybrid powertrain
  • One gasoline-only powertrain available: turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 274 horsepower and 311 pounds-feet of torque, eight-speed automatic transmission, front- or all-wheel drive
  • Pricing starts at $40,735 for the basic LX trim and tops out at $58,335 for the loaded X-Pro SX-Prestige (all prices include $1,545 destination charge).

What’s New?

The Kia Telluride’s first full redesign brings a bigger vehicle with a nearly 3-inch stretch to the wheelbase, a 2-plus-inch bump in overall length, 9.1 inches of ground clearance on the off-road X-Pro trim and new styling to give it an edgier look in keeping with the rest of the Kia lineup.

Inside, dual 12.3-inch digital displays for the instrument panel and multimedia screen dominate the new dash, but physical controls still remain for the displays and climate control and audio systems. The three-row interior space is still as copious as before but adds a bit more cargo room, and some wild new interior color combinations will also be available. Two powertrains will be available: The old V-6 lump has been replaced by a standard turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, while a hybrid variant will come later in the year.

Release Date and Pricing

Note that there is no 2026 model of the Telluride; the company skipped the ‘26 model year and went right to the new ‘27, which is expected to go on sale sometime in the first quarter of this year.

Full pricing for the gasoline-only variant is below; pricing for the upcoming gas-electric hybrid version has not yet been announced and will come closer to that vehicle’s on-sale date this spring. FWD is standard, and AWD adds $2,000 to the S and EX trims; the LX and SX are FWD only, and the rest of the lineup comes with standard AWD.

  • LX: $40,735
  • S: $43,635
  • EX: $45,335
  • X-Line EX: $48,835
  • SX: $50,335
  • X-Line SX: $53,335
  • X-Pro SX: $55,235
  • SX-Prestige: $55,435
  • X-Line SX-Prestige: $56,435
  • X-Pro SX-Prestige: $58,335

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The gas-only 2027 Telluride is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 274 hp and 311 pounds-feet of torque; it’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving either the front or all four wheels. A gasoline-electric hybrid version is coming later and will make a combined 329 hp and 339 pounds-feet of torque, which it pushes to the wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel economy for the gasoline-only powertrain has not yet been revealed, but Kia says that the upcoming hybrid should achieve 35 mpg in combined city/highway driving.

Trim Levels and Safety Features

The difference in trim levels throughout the Telluride pantheon of offerings comes largely from additional options and equipment. Kia doesn’t allow for much individual option ordering but rather bundles options into trim levels, cutting down on build combinations and complexity.

The big difference comes when you specify an X-Pro trim versus the others. This is the Telluride’s off-road trim, and it gets a bit more capable for the ‘27 model year thanks to bigger all-terrain tires, a unique suspension, special off-road software, front and rear recovery points, a higher ride height, an electronic limited slip differential, special exterior lighting and a new Ground View Monitor camera system that activates below 6 mph.

All trim levels feature standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a full roster of electronic safety features. Unique to the Telluride, however, is the standard Rear Occupant Alert System, which isn’t just an audio chime to remind the driver to check the back seats upon shutting off the vehicle, but employs radar motion sensors to make sure there’s nobody back there and notifies the driver through the vehicle and the Kia Access smartphone app.

The new 2027 Kia Telluride updates one of our favorite big SUVs in many excellent ways, and we’re looking forward to driving it soon.
