What Is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?
The five-seat Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the priciest and most attention-grabbing luxury SUVs on the market. Derived from a military vehicle, its blocky shape makes the G-Class stand out everywhere it goes. Under the hood of the G550 is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 443 horsepower that’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The performance-focused AMG G63 has a 577-hp, twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine and an even more raucous growl when you hit the accelerator. New for 2025 is an all-electric model called G580 with EQ Technology; it uses four electric motors and has 579 hp, with an EPA-estimated driving range of 239 miles. The G-Class’ competitors include the Ineos Grenadier, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX 600 and Porsche Cayenne.
What’s New on the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?
In addition to the electric G580 version, the G550’s six-cylinder engine is new for 2025; it was previously powered by a 416-hp, turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8. The G-Class’ front and rear bumpers, grille and some exterior trim are subtly redesigned, as well. Interior updates include a new steering wheel and a surround-view camera display with a “transparent hood” function, which shows what’s underneath the vehicle. The AMG G63 gets an available Active Ride Control adaptive hydraulic suspension.

Should I Buy the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?
There’s no doubt about it: In all its forms, the G-Class is an over-the-top choice even among the most extroverted luxury SUVs. Its rugged looks are backed up by potent drivetrains and serious off-road capability. Stiff crosswinds can get the G-Class a bit unsettled, however, and let’s not overlook the simple fact that the base model commands more than $140,000. That number jumps to around $185,000 for the AMG G63 variant.
