What Is the 2025 Toyota bZ4X?

The Toyota bZ4X is the automaker’s first mainstream electric vehicle, launched for 2023 along with the Subaru Solterra (which is essentially a rebadged version of the bZ4X). Unlike the Subaru, which comes with standard all-wheel drive, the bZ4X is available with front-wheel drive or AWD in both its base XLE and upscale Limited trims. A new-for-2025 Nightshade trim comes solely with AWD. The single-motor FWD powertrain is rated at 201 horsepower, while the dual-motor AWD version makes 214 hp. The bZ4X competes with the Chevrolet Equinox EV, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Honda Prologue, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Nissan Ariya and Volkswagen ID.4.

What’s New on the 2025 Toyota bZ4X?

Toyota has significantly dropped the bZ4X’s price for 2025 — the XLE trim is now almost $6,000 cheaper than its 2024 counterpart. A blackout-trim Nightshade edition based on the entry-level XLE joins the line, and the uplevel Limited trim gains standard traffic jam assist, lane change assist and front cross-traffic alert. A significantly updated and enhanced version of the bZ4X, called simply bZ, is set to arrive as a 2026 model.

How Much Range Does the 2025 Toyota bZ4X Have?

The Toyota bZ4X’s EPA-estimated driving range runs from 222 to 252 miles, depending on trim and drive wheels.

How Long Does It Take to Charge the 2025 Toyota bZ4X?

The Toyota bZ4X’s charging times range from an estimated 9.5 hours on a standard 240-volt Level 2 charger to go to a 100% charge, down to an estimated 30 minutes on a 350-kilowatt DC fast charger to go from a 10% charge to 80%.

What Features in the 2025 Toyota bZ4X Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Synthetic leather and fabric upholstery
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Four USB-C ports, one USB-A port
  • 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Digital instrument display
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Blind spot warning
  • Keyless entry and start
  • Safe exit assist
  • Panoramic fixed glass roof
  • Power liftgate
  • 18-inch wheels

Available features include:

  • Leatherette upholstery
  • Eight-way power driver’s seat
  • Smartphone digital key
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • 360-degree camera system
  • JBL premium audio system
  • Automated hands-free parking system
  • X-Mode with deep snow/mud and downhill assist controls
  • Two-tone exterior colors
  • Rear roof spoiler
  • 20-inch wheels

Should I Buy the 2025 Toyota bZ4X?

Toyota was a little late to the EV game, choosing to focus on hybrids instead. The bZ4X is a passable first effort, but it doesn’t wow compared with its rivals. Though some drivers won’t like the far-forward location of the gauge panel or the lack of a proper glove box, the bZ4X’s driving experience is pleasantly conventional overall, and cabin space is generous for both people and cargo. Acceleration is adequate if not rapid, but most competing EVs outclass the bZ4X in terms of both driving range and charging speed.
