This car is amazing for a Hybrid
September 8, 2017
I researched cars for months before buying this Lexus. My top three needs in a vehicle were: 1. Quiet and smooth riding, 2. Efficient, 3. Reliable. After looking into the Turbo Diesels and other Hybrids this vehicle easily rose to the top as the best choice. The car can not be evaluated on the basis of speed, handling as it is not a sports vehicle and does not pretend to be. I have driven the car about 4,000 miles and up into the mountains and have never even came close to flooring it, simply put it does have plenty of quiet and constant power if you are not trying win a race. When it comes to the ride and driving characteristics it has a very quiet and incredibly smooth ride (like being on rails!) and has a confident tone (does not sway or feel bouncy at any time, just has confident ride). I have a hearing disability and this car has changed my life as I can now hear the radio without turning the volume up very loud and can actually easily talk on the bluetooth and hear everything. One thing that may be overlooked by some is the reliability factor...I read and searched for consumer complaints about the weaknesses of this cars design and to see where the potential repair costs could get high. Basically all the research I did did not expose a single design flaw which plagued this car. If reliability is important to you, then the Lexus brand should move up in your rankings. In addition, this car is one of only a few premium vehicles that have a spare tire which can be a very important when you are on the road. I have friends that were on a road trip and had to spend an entire weekend at a hotel when their run flat tire blew out, there was no spare, and no replacement tires were available at any tire shops in the area. They had to wait for a car dealership to open on the next Monday which could then ship a tire to their location and finally get them back on the road. This was a nightmare for them and basically ruined to entire trip and cost them a fortune for hotel rooms and a new tire $$$$. This is a big deal as the run flats are VERY expensive and are hard to find especially in rural area's. Lastly the Toyota designed Hybrid system in this Lexus is simply amazing and my concerns about so many moving parts that could break were unwarranted. If you are looking for quiet, smooth, roomy, efficient, and reliable sedan this could be the best choice. During my research other hybrids that seemed to get high reviews are the Avalon, Camry, Hyundai Sonata, and Honda Accord, which all may be cost less than Lexus. If you are looking for a sporty, fast and great handling vehicle then you will likely not have this car on the top of your list (consider the Lexus IS, GS..or BMW turbo Diesels) which can be picked up pre-owned at a reasonable price. So far we are absolutely loving this car.
