What Is the 2019 BMW 4 Series?

The BMW 4 Series debuted for 2014 as a replacement for the previous-generation 3 Series coupe and convertible. Power comes from turbocharged four- or six-cylinder engines, and rear- and all-wheel-drive versions are available. Competitors include the Audi A5 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

With the same length, width, wheelbase and track as the two-door coupe, but a bit more headroom, the 4 Series Gran Coupe sports a sedan profile. Like the 4 Series coupe and convertible, it’s offered in four-cylinder 430i and six-cylinder 440i form. The high-performance M4 is available as a coupe or convertible and competes with the Cadillac ATS-V and Lexus RC F.

What’s New on the 2019 BMW 4 Series?

Navigation with real-time traffic information and a one-year trial of Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity is now standard. The M4 also adds standard parking sensors.

What Features in the 2019 BMW 4 Series Are Most Important?

BMW’s rear-wheel-drive platform’s handling characteristics have been benchmarked by practically every automaker fielding a luxury sports sedan. Available active safety features include blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. Other available tech features include a head-up display, a digital instrument panel, wireless device charging and a Wi-Fi hot spot (data subscription required after initial trial).

Should I Buy the 2019 BMW 4 Series?

Handling and braking are 4 Series highlights. The Gran Coupe version offers extra cargo versatility without sacrificing style, while the retractable-hardtop convertible delivers year-round practicality. However, the automatic transmission’s responses during performance driving are lacking, and the car’s stability system is too conservative.

  • Could this be the best Sport Coupe available?

BMW 440i xDrive Coupe: I have owned several BMW's over the years. During my 4 years of ownership, this was the finest of them all! BMW underrates their engines, and this 440i was noticeably stronger than my previous 335i and almost no turbo lag. The transmission is flawless. The xDrive 440i is deceptively quick. Everything worked as it should, and I never had any issues. The ride is firm but not harsh, I had the adaptive suspension and when activated, it was like driving a go cart. The electronic steering was not as engaged as previous model hydraulic steering yet the low-speed steering in parking lots was much easier to maneuver, I will take the tradeoff. This vehicle has minimal sway in the corners and will go where you point it. Sometimes you don't realize how good this vehicle is till you drive a lesser vehicle (as when renting). The leather wrapped steering wheel was perfect feel and the heated steering wheel was never too hot. The seats are infinitely adjustable and supportive. The BOSE radio is very good for an OEM and has many optional tuning choices available. The HUD (Heads Up Display) is fabulous! The power, smoothness and deceptively quiet interior even at excessive speeds, this vehicle maintains its composure. This vehicle breeds confidence making it all too easy to drive fast, very fast. The back seats fold down, and I was able to put my mountain bike in the truck (with front wheel removed) so this has a large storage area. This vehicle is just the right size, I personally like the coupe better than the sedan with its sloped aerodynamic rear deck. I would highly recommend this vehicle for anyone seeking a sport coupe, this hits all the right buttons, well done BMW!

  • A Convertible that Blends Comfort and Sportiness!

Own a 2019 BMW 440i convertible. Very nice handling and comfortable riding car. I am very impressed that when the top is down, the wind buffeting is minimal and quiet compared to the 1988 Mercedes 560SL and 1999 Saab 9-3 convertibles that I have owned before. Cowl shake is very minimal, if almost nonexistent. The front seats are very comfortable. The back seats are a little short on legroom but are find for a short trip. The Harmon Kardon sound system sounds really good. The I-Drive system is actually easy to use. I like the four stage Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ modes. Each really works well and changes the car's character in both driving and road handling. I am getting close to 26.8 mpg all-around. No issues in reliability. This car has converted this multiple Mercedes Benz owner. Highly recommended!

  • Incredible performance and fun

This car is a perfect mix of sport and fun with convenience and daily driveability. The daily commutes became so much more than a commute, they were an exhilarating journey. The car, despite being a coupe has plenty of space in the back for passengers. I'm 6 foot and fit comfortably in the back.

  • Been waiting for this my whole life

Bought in October 2019, only have 7100 miles on it, it's a weekend driver. I absolutely love the car: plenty of get up and go in the comfort mode, aggressive sport mode responsiveness and takes corners on a rail! Not as much testosterone as the M4, but no slouch. Addition of a chip will give you almost the same punch as the M4 if you are inclined. If the exhaust had a little more throaty sound, it would complete the package. Can buy an exhaust and add on for the sound effect if desired. First luxury sport car I've owned, previous purchases were family cars. Love it so far. If you enjoy driving, not being driven by the car, this is a fun car to drive.

  • BMW is a drivers car. Fun to drive.

I like to drive the car. I like the way it handles. It is comfortable to drive and ride in. The trunk, with the top down even, has a surprising amount of room and storage is accessible. The 400 series back seat leg room is better. I have had Mercedes, Jaguars, and a Corvette, among others and this is my 5th BMW. The dealership experience is also very important to me!

  • Could’ve killed me

Do not purchase a bmw unless you are willing to deal with a don’t give a crap about fairness The car had a unexpected acceleration incident with my wife into a light post in a parking lot foot on the break carded massive burn out up over a curb into a light post standard and proceeded to try to push the post over until the car was shut off by the on off switch Breaking was to no avail. The car has 118 miles on it.
