The Jeep Cherokee compact SUV has seating for five and comes standard with a 180-horsepower four-cylinder engine in the base Altitude Lux trim; a 270-hp turbo-four is in the range-topping Trailhawk. All-wheel drive is standard on both trims. The Cherokee comes standard with a wide range of comfort, tech and active safety features. While it’s excellent when it comes to venturing off-road, especially in the rugged Trailhawk trim, there’s no hiding the fact that the current Cherokee is roughly 10 years old and due for replacement. The 2023 Jeep Cherokee is probably best in its go-anywhere Trailhawk trim. It endows this compact SUV with all-terrain driving prowess that leaves most of the competition in the dust (or whatever type of terrain they happen to be traversing). While the level of standard equipment is high, so is the Cherokee’s base price, and cargo room ranks toward the bottom of the segment, too. A completely new Cherokee featuring some kind of fuel-saving electrified powertrain is likely coming next year.
