2019 Toyota Land Cruiser review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser?

The 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser is a full-size luxury SUV that can seat up to eight. It's powered by a 381-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8 engine that works with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It's available in only one trim level and has standard four-wheel drive. Primary competitors include the GMC Yukon Denali, Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 and Infiniti QX80.

What's New on the 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser?

There are no significant changes this year.

What Features in the 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser Are Most Important?

The Land Cruiser's only option is a rear-seat entertainment system. Standard features include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, push-button start, a power moonroof, four-zone automatic air conditioning, navigation and a JBL premium stereo.

Standard active safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard.

Should I Buy the 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser?

If you're looking for a big, powerful SUV with a lot of features that can go far off the beaten path thanks to a sophisticated four-wheel-drive system, the Land Cruiser is worth a look. It's priced like a luxury SUV, however, and its estimated gas mileage is poor.

Reliability, longevity, durability

Our 21 y.o. '99 LC is still going strong with 350,000 mi. Other than required maintenance it has had zero problems. It is a heavy vehicle which is why MPG is so low, but is why it tracks so well in all-terrain, all-weather conditions, and why it survives well in collisions. Very heavy-duty suspension, but rides like a luxury vehicle. Power? We once towed a pick-up truck out of a deep, snow-laden ditch that was itself pulling a large flatbed carrying 2 snowmobiles. This is the vehicle of choice for most companies doing remote work overseas.

Second Land Cruiser and Counting

This is a great car. Sturdy, reliable, safe. Plenty of room. The only 2 things I would change would be to add Apple Play and better gas mileage. It does burn unleaded gasoline however. This car is great. If you love it it will love you back. My last LC is 20 years old and my son is driving it.
