As the ornithological proverb says, what’s good for the Toyota Prius is good for the Prius Plug-in Hybrid — or something like that. Following its regular hybrid counterpart, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid (which until the 2025 model year was known as the Prius Prime) gets a Nightshade Edition for 2026. The formula here is the same as on the lesser-electrified hatchback: mid-level trim, limited color palette, and black exterior and interior trim bits. For 2026, the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid starts at $34,970 (all prices include $1,195 destination charge).

Release Date and Pricing

The 2026 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid will go on sale later in the summer. Full pricing is as follows:

  • SE: $34,970
  • XSE: $38,220
  • Nightshade: $38,990
  • XSE Premium: $41,665

What Are the 2026 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s Trim Levels?

The base Prius Plug-in Hybrid SE rides on 17-inch wheels and features LED exterior lighting, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and keyless entry and start. Inside, the seats are upholstered in cloth and manually adjustable in front, and there are six speakers. Infotainment is controlled through an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on every 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid. It includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure prevention, lane-centering steering, automatic high beams and road-sign recognition. Also standard across the lineup are blind spot monitors, front and rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist and traffic-jam assist.

The XSE upgrades to 19-inch wheels and overhauls the cabin with synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and wireless phone charging. Based on the XSE, the Nightshade features black wheels and exterior trim and badging, as well as a black synthetic leather interior with gray contrast stitching. Front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking are optional on the SE and standard on the XSE and higher trims.

At the top of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid lineup is the XSE Premium, which features a fixed panoramic glass roof, a power liftgate and Digital Key, which allows owners to use their phone as a vehicle key. The Premium also adds heated and ventilated front seats, a 12.3-inch touchscreen and an eight-speaker JBL sound system. A 360-degree camera system and automated parking are optional.

More From Cars.com:

What Are the 2026 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s Powertrain Specs and MPG?

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine assisted by two electric motors to produce a combined 220 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic transmission sends output to the front wheels.

With a 13.6-kilowatt-hour battery, the Prius Plug-In can travel up to 45 miles on electricity alone in the base SE trim or 40 miles for the rest of the lineup. With the gas engine running, Toyota says the SE returns the same EPA-estimated 53/51/52 mpg city/highway/combined as the 2025 model, and the rest of the line is rated at 50/47/48 mpg (official ratings for the 2026 model are not yet available).
