Excellent Durability and performance

I have owned 2 of these exact cars in the past, one for me and one for my wife and they have always ran top notch. They have the most reliable engines in my opinion. The style was great, handling and reliability. We fell in love with these cars.

5.0

Excellent Handling and power to spare

I have owned 2 MK-IV GTI's and I have to say that the VR6 is one of the best cars i have owned. The power is excellent for the weight of the car. Handles excellent and has been every bit reliable. Pleanty of legroom and headroom. Stock stereo is every bit as good as an aftermarket one. Add a chip and a few bolt ons and it is an excellent track car. Gas mileage is as good as can be expected. Road noise is minor at highway speeds. Rear seats are roomy for a hatchback and there is plenty of cargo space.

Biggest disappointment... Fine German eng my foot

It seems like everything that could ever break, it would, and over and over again. Two years of failed window regulators, three catalytic converters, oxygen sensors replaced twice. Alarm system and electric problems that could not be replaced by any dealer, and still not working. Engine light comes on and off every week - dealer does not charge to reset any more. Interior plastic parts break and come apart - vents, knobs, hinges... All in all, by far the most expensive, after purchase, car I have ever owned ... grant you that when it runs well the experience is satisfactory. Still when I see a VW commercial I look for something to throw at it....
