  • Solid, Reliable, Quality Vehicle

I inherited this Volvo from my mother, the proverbial little old lady who only drove it around town. At 23 years old, it has 103,000 miles. Super reliable and solidly built. Unfortunately, it recently developed a glitch in the driver's door handle which prevents the interior light from turning off when the door is closed, so it ends up draining the battery. Electrical issues are expensive to repair, but in my opinion, this car is well worth the investment. I wouldn't get rid of it for anything!

  • Dependable solid safe car!

I have PTSD from a van accident, and this car hugs the road, feels safe, and that is so important. It's a tank. The steel safety cage and winter traction transmission option allow me to feel safe and roll out.

  • poorest reliability of any car I have owned

comfortable, very good handling but always breaking. having purchased the car literally from a little old lady with good service records performed by Volvo with 69000 miles on it I was contemplating using a good reliable form of transportation. Out of twelve vehicles of mine and numerous agricultural pieces of equipment it ranks in the bottom three when it comes to time spent in the shop. It is the only vehicle that see only highway use while everything else is exposed to rough off highway service as well as being my lowest mileage vehicle now at 160,000 mile [some have over 400,000 miles on them. It has had the following issues: throttle body, mass air flow sensor, turbo valve, drive shaft u joint, clogged PVC taking out the turbo and a cam shaft seal, several ignition coils, motor mounts, ball joints, differential seal, drive seat motor, several switches. It is the only vehicle I have had that has had to be put in a shop that specializes on Volvo. All of my other vehicles have all repairs done in my own shop. Yes I do compare reliability to the top three of the fleet which combined have accumulated in excess of 1.1 million miles with significant daily off highway use of which are mid 1980s but not Volvos.

  • Best SNOW CAR for THE MOUNTAINS -- By FAR!

With: -- a SUPER LOW CENTER OF GRAVITY (unlike the look-alike mini SUVs); -- a extremely LONG and WIDE wheel base; -- European-style STEERING (tight & predictable with zero lurching caused by the deep ruts in the road); -- perfect weight distribution; and -- a turbo-charged engine with the right amt of torque vs. power; the '99 Volvo V70XC AWD is the PERFECT SNOW CAR!! Used to have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was a NIGHTMARE in the snow -- give it too much gas and the tires would start spinning regardless of the speed. And around corners? You better being going super slow or... Watch out! One other bonus that no one dares to speak of: when you drive a STATION WAGON that only your Grandma or Soccer Moms would own, COPS don't look twice at you when traffic is moving at 85 mph! In the mountains, the TWO V70XC's I now own (my father drives one of them), have plenty of power to go UPHILL at 11,000 feet at, well, whatever speed YOU want it to go! Best yet, is the price! While I can easily keep up with any Porsche SUV or Ford Raptor (Pickup), there is a certain power that comes from owning a car that costs as much as a SINGLE CAR PAYMENT!! While I only get ~ 22.4 mpg in the mountains of Colorado, I can confidently and SAFELY do the speed limit, even during snow storms!

  • V70R turbo wagen!

This is a enthusiast car. 250 horsepower in a luxury wagon. Power heated everything and a roomy interior make for a comfy ride and I'm 6.2. It's a 99 so it has a boxery design and more room for storage because of it.

  • Comfortable hauler with good performance

I still miss this car. It's one of the few wagons you could buy with a manual transmission. Though it was the base engine, it still had the guts to get the car moving pretty well and the suspension was admirable. After 100k miles it became an expensive car to maintain if you, like me, use a shop to do the work. Sold it to a mechanic friend when it had about 140k on it and he's still driving it many years later. My kids still talk about it. It was very spacious inside, and could really haul a lot of IKEA furniture.

  • Reliable engine

Got my 99 V70 non-turbo with 185k on it as a second car. Be ready to replace the front control arms every 70k or so and eventually the heater core. Great car overall, has 385k on it now. Also bought an 05 V70 2.5T. Enjoy driving these cars and don't have to worry about putting lots of km's on them.

  • Cannot get over how confortable this car is.

I am going on 300 000k and motor and transmission is still going strong. Important to keep the wear on your tires, front and back the same, to prevent prematurely wearing out the bevel gear on awd models.

  • As Good As My Jeep CJ

I purchased mine with 78K on it. I now have 109K with just normal maintenance required. It has been a great car and can really handle winter weather well. The driveshaft for the rear needed a center bearing which my independent shop did for far less than a new shaft from the dealer. More machinery = More maintenance. Not that I have tried them but the Volvo safety features more than make up for it. In fact, Volvo features a 2000 V70 in a Safety Brochure. The center passenger compartment stayed intact when impacted from the rear and shoved into the vehicle ahead.
