2021 BMW X5 PHEV review
This is my second X5, and the X5 45e is a great hybrid vehicle without any of the usual compromises. It has all the amenities of a standard X5, with the added value of the electric drive and $7500 Federal Tax Credits. The vehicle can be plugged in, or even recharges while driving (when that feature is activated). I highly recommend this vehicle for those considering a new SUV or Hybrid.

2021 BMW X5 PHEV review
I've had this car for over a year now and I am generally impressed....drives great (even in snow), is quite comfortable, has lots of features, decent electronics, gets excellent mileage with and without the battery. Negatives: cheap "leather" interior, door sill is too wide to get out without getting dirt on the back of your leg (even without the options step), backup cross traffic safety is useless unless you are backing into a wall, and the hands-free lift gate is disabled if you get a trailer hitch. All fixable if BMW but some effort into it.

The airmatic suspension failed and car was not safe to drive. Lucky for us we were only a few miles from this dealership. We called and Eric Shier took us right in when we arrived. Had the car assessed by Ali in short order. He was able to order the parts and had us back on the road in two days - no quibbling about not having time to get to us till next week, etc. And Ali even helped us transfer our luggage to the rental vehicle and reassured us that he knows his way around the S class. We count ourselves very lucky to have had that breakdown near your dealership. Excellent care from both these gentlemen. Might even have to visit family in Michigan the next time we are in the market for a car. Thank you
2026 BMW X5 PHEV review
We leased a 2026 BMW X5 xDrive50e on 3/31/2026. There were at least a dozen on the dealer lot and we were able to find one with exactly the packages and colors we wanted. We got an excellent deal and, including our 6-year-old paid-off trade-in, left with a monthly payment of less than $300. The car is beautiful, manhattan green with cognac interior. This is our first PHEV, so we started with the included level 1 charger and then installed a level 2 charger (Emporia Classic) in our garage as quickly as possible. For our typical around-town use we've been able to drive almost entirely in EV mode. The EV mileage gauge starts off at 50 miles and, given recent mild weather, appears to be accurate. The interior displays are quite usable. We particularly appreciate the heads-up driver display, which shows speed, speed limit, and even driving directions. The most common operations are still associated with knobs and buttons, with interior temperature settings relegated to the central LCD but visible by default. The main LCD is a touch screen and the BMW iDrive puck is particularly helpful for changing settings. The depth of settings and options is immense. Fortunately an expert at the dealer set up all the basics before we left. We're still experimenting with various features such as automatic locking and interior lighting, but we can find our way around. The ride is softer than a previous (~2015) X5 we had, which is actually nice. The car can be raised and lowered. You can drive in EV, hybrid, or sport mode. So far we've kept it in EV and the performance is plenty good. It still has the tight handling we expect of a BMW. If you punch the gas, the engine fires up and the car really takes off (483 hp). We had a bad experience with run-flat tires in the previous X5 and switched to regular tires plus a spare kept under the back storage area. That is no longer an option because that space is now taken by batteries. We hope we won't have similar tire trouble in this car. With our three-year lease and bumper-to-bumper plus maintenance coverage over the entire period, we will have minimal worries about anything going wrong.

I researched both traditional hybrid and plug in hybrid coming to conclusion that plug in was perfect for my needs. BMW X5 e had the longest range so I decided to purchase one a month ago. I have driven the car approximately 900 miles on one and a half tank of gas and several nightly charges. The quality of the car is exceptional and I love the performance. I would highly recommend this car.
