2013 Volkswagen Beetle review
I was initially looking for a used Golf, but the more I looked at the Beetle the more I liked it. When I found the one I ended up buying, it was love at first drive. This little car packs a punch with the 2.0T, and will throw you back in your seat. It’s an absolute blast to drive. Handles well around town and on the interstate, where it could easily get one in trouble since it wants to GO. The same engine as is found in the GTI, so this should be unsurprising. Easily gets 30+mpg on the highway when cruising along, typically around 20-25 city. These cars handle city driving just fine, but they are meant for the freeway in my opinion. I find the interior to be quite luxurious. Heated leather seats (not available in the Golf) with plenty of storage compartments. Not many frills, just a sleek and mostly practical dash. The trunk is big enough for grocery runs, and the rear seats fold forward for larger loads. It’s not going to haul large appliances or furniture, although it could possibly carry some bigger stuff on a roof rack. The Fender audio system is impressive, wouldn’t change a thing about it except it could benefit from an updated head unit with CarPlay. This hasn’t been an issue for me. I think the car is a real looker, it turns heads and has drawn the occasional compliment. My used model had some imperfections, but it’s still a great looking car that I want to look after and keep for as long as I can. It feels well built, the doors close with the satisfying weighty thud of a premium vehicle. Overall, I am very happy with my 2013 beetle. It’s not only fun, but it seems to be reliable with a couple caveats that some owners might not be aware of. The 2.0T engine is designed for premium fuel, using regular will eventually damage it. The 2.5 can run regular, but I believe the 1.8T will also want premium. The reason for this is lower octane fuel will cause detonation in these high compression engines. If you don’t know what detonation is, just know it’s bad. The oil needs changed more regularly than the manufacturer recommended 10k miles. 5k to be safe, 7k at a stretch. This is especially true for higher mileage vehicles. Speaking of stretch, there is a known issue with some 2.0T engines where the timing chain stretches over time and many miles, so if buying used that’s something I’d have a mechanic check out. This is an expensive maintenance item, but IF it’s needed, getting it done along with the tensioner and a new water pump for good measure will ensure that the new to you Beetle is reliable for many years and miles to come. The other issue is carbon build up. Getting it cleaned out is not as spendy as the timing chain but it’s also not a cheap fix. I believe this can largely be avoided by using top tier fuel (it contains detergents that help with this) as well as regular oil changes and some regular spirited driving. Would not recommend this car to someone who mainly does town or city driving, the 2.5 engine might be better suited for that. According to my research, the 2.5 is quite bulletproof BUT it’s not good for any engine to be driven at low RPM all the time.

2012 Volkswagen Beetle review
The Beetle Turbo is a blast to drive, This car combines styling of the older generation beetle with good enough turbocharged power, making it a fun and exciting ride. Its 2.0l engine delivers a pretty quick acceleration, and the handling is surprisingly agile for a compact car. The interior is both somewhat stylish and comfortable, with a touch of the classic Beetle design. Plus, it's got a pretty good sound system. 2017 Volkswagen Golf review
I have a 130k on mine and it runs better than a Swiss watch. No major issues, ever! comfortable, fast and easy on fuel. It has everything that I need and nothing that I do not. Clearly the high point of the Golf's evolution. I am dreading finding a replacement as nothing on the market today comes close to being such a complete car.

2024 Volkswagen Golf R review

I always loved shifting, but getting a little older so thought it was time. 2013 Volkswagen Beetle review
I have owned my convertible bug for 10 years. I bought it brand new and have 98k miles on it. I have taken this car for its yearly inspection and oil changes at the dealership and completed all factory recommended service. Believe it or not I have not had to do anything besides buy tires...its on the second set...This car is still on all its original parts breaks, rotors etc...Its insane!!! I love my bug and it has been the best little car I have owned.

2024 Volkswagen Golf R review
Owned my 2024 Golf R Manual Transmission since October 2023. Traded in a 2018 Mustang GT Manual with all the bells and whistles except a security package. The only thing I miss is the Coyote wail, otherwise the Golf is more fun to drive, with short gearing for quick jumps off the line with its AWD traction and good push in your back in top gear at highway speeds, and a simple drop into 4th for truly impressive hole shots that surprise the unsuspecting motorists stereotyping your car as a typical econobox. The only drawback with the short gearing is hitting the 6500 rpm rev limiter sooner than you expect. It has luxury car pretensions with all its features for the money, ride and NVH, including an adaptive suspension with truly noticeable variance in its range of settings; and it is more refined with better build quality than the Mustang with a more usable backseat and cargo area to boot. The torque vectoring rear differential provides noticeable performance when hitting the gas coming out of turns. The HK audio is a little tinny for my ears compared to an Acura ELS system two cars ago (2010 TL). So far, I have witnessed software glitches with the cornering lighting system and the steering wheel button controls failing intermittently, hoping the dealer will be able to duplicate and address the problems before the warranty runs out (compared to no warranty or other failure issues with the Ford over 6 years). Many people call a $47K Golf ridiculously priced; but I'd say they really don't understand and are judging it by its 2-box design aesthetics. You are getting engine, steering, and sport differential similar (if not the exact same) as what's used in 2.0T Porsche Macans and Audi SQ5s for thousands less, with an MT option; more refined than GR Corrolla, more features than Subaru WRX, and torque vectoring AWD superior to more expensive Acura Integra Type S and similar price to Civic R, which are both fwd only. No regrets yet with some cautious optimism the minor glitches don't turn into the full blown stereotypical VW electrical issues for which they can be known.

2018 Volkswagen Golf R review
I've owned this vehicle 2019-2023 (and counting). I'm 70yrs old and can say this is the best car I've ever owned. Performance, comfort and styling are 5.0. Most in my age group don't understand the Golf R until they get to drive it.

2013 Volkswagen Golf R review
My 2013 6-speed VW R is simply a blast to drive! Before I bought my brand new black 4-door VW Golf R, I drove a much larger car, the 2004 VW V8 Touareg and I loved it. But after 10 years and with my kids grown and driving their own cars, I was initially interested in downsizing and intrigued by the amazing mileage advertised for the Golf Diesel -(this was long before VW was burned by the Diesel scam). At the time my VW dealer replied to my questions about leather seats saying "sorry no leather". Then he said, wait, have you heard of the Golf R? No, I’d never heard of the car but it had the leather seats and I test drove both of the two 6-speed models my dealer had on the lot. I bought the 4 door version and have never regretted it. My Golf R makes city and highway driving a pleasure. Something like a small land rocket or driving a really fast but very safe go-cart, especially so on the highway. And while I'm not interested in always jumping to the head of the traffic mosh, when I need it, by simply downshifting to 5th gear and from there powering up to 6th, I'm able to quickly scoot by the traffic and be on my way. I love the fantastic handling of the 4 wheel always-on drive that’s stock on the R. The rock-solid stability of my R is just outstanding. Invariably, my passengers are at first scared and then quickly amazed at the R's ability to tightly hug the road - even the steepest curves - while I'm accelerating into a highway on ramp, or smoothly passing other cars in the midst of heavy rain or in a snow storm! The auto-adjusted headlights with their auto washer squirt never fail to impress as with the many other safety features that came stock with the R's amazing build from the VW factory in Wiesbaden Germany. This is a very special little hatchback. Something like only 4000 were built for worldwide sales in 2013. To be perfectly honest, I knew very little of this when I bought the car. 2016 Volkswagen Beetle review
I traded in my Buick Enclave for a VW Beetle over 6 years ago and have loved it nearly every day. The Turbo engine is fantastic. It's been a great little car. The only complaint is that it's not great (at all!) in the snow. Other than that, two thumbs up.

2016 Volkswagen Golf R review
I have owned this 2016 Golf R manual since December, 2015. My previous car was a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3, a great hot hatch in it's own right. Right away I knew I had to tune the Golf R to make it feel faster than the Speed 3. APR Stage 1 accomplished that in spades. Not satisfied, I went Stage 2 which made the car absolutely bonkers (I did have to upgrade the clutch to a Southbend Stage 3 racing clutch). I have had three years on the Stage 2 and have had zero problems with it. Unrelated issues have included rear differential oil leak, window switch modulation, and misfiring due to bad plugs and coils. All except the latter were fixed under warranty. There is also a problem with the backlighting of the speedo/tach/fuel/coolant temp gauge that hasn't been fixed but other displays are fine. The car at just under 54K miles remains a blast to drive and very easy to live with.

2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI review
Volkswagen did a great job refining the MK8 GTI. Key points -One of the best handling FWD cars mainly due to the LSD, XDS and suspension refinement. -Very smooth power deliver almost 0 turbo lag. - 40th anniversary has to be the best value purchase as it comes standard with DCC and IQ lightings which are only available on the highest trim. The negatives include: -The infotainment can be improved wireless android and apple car play need to be standard. Can't set your phone properly on the wireless charger when the phone is attached to the wire. - Compared to the MK7 the coin holder and the sliding storage below the driver sear is missing. -Unable to disable auto start and stop feature permanently as restores to default on every time you start the vehicle.
