Sold me a car with a bad transmission after a month.
Sold me a car with a bad transmission after a month. It was determined that I was cheated badly. They decided not to honor the warranty and made sure I was miserable
Possible future lawsuit
Dealing w/ Shift is a nightmare! They are the WORST online dealership! I've purchased through Vroom and it took less than 30 minutes. I'm hours in with Shift and they told me it'll be a MINIMUM of 10 days, xxx!? I don't need the car delivered as it's in Oakland (~50 miles away). I have a M4 on hold. They're charging $200 to use Bank of America financing, even though B of A is featured on their website. They pushed for me to use their only option offered at 11.6% interest. LMAO!!!! This place is a joke. I will be having the car inspected because I don't trust them and if anything is off, I'll sue them.
I purchased a car in San Diego and got into it thinking
I purchased a car in San Diego and got into it thinking that I didn't need to examine anything with a fine tooth comb. I was confident that their 150-point inspection would suffice. I was wrong. I was wondering why the gentleman that was doing the paperwork was taking so long outside on the car. I got into the car and started making my way home for an appointment. Once I got on the freeway, the driver's mirror was rattling. I called the customer service line immediately and while doing that I looked at the dash to find (!) an air pressure sensor. I immediately took it in but first had to sit on hold for an hour before getting a rep from the company. Beware that you will have to be on hold for quite some time because customer service doesn't seem to be at the top of the company's priorities. I think this will be the downfall of this company. I turned the car in to the mechanic and the instructions were that I had to wait till Shift reviewed the work request (normally a 48-hour waiting period) I didn't have that time so I took an Uber to pick the car up again on Friday afternoon. I had to pay $100 for them to release the car to me for the diagnostic fee (another unplanned expense out of my pocket. The mechanics didn't put the mirror on correctly and the mirror fell off. It is Monday and after waiting on hold for about 2 1/2 hours, I get ahold of someone. I had already sent the diagnostic to Shift and they still have to send it to their team to review. Coming up on Tuesday and really questioning why Shift's ad says "lemon free zone" 150-point inspection. What is the freakin point if they have people releasing cars to customers that have issues? I will never do business with this company and will not recommend them to anyone. Fail!!
TOTALLY DISORGANIZED. NO ONE KNEW WHERE MY CAR WAS…. WASTED HOUR OF MY TIME WAITING TO JUST TALK TO SOMEONE, THEY WANTED TO TAKE MY CAR AND SEND ME ON BART TO BUY A NEW CAR PLACE WAS VERY HARD TO SEE FROM ST. NEIGHBORS DID NOT KNOW THEY WERE THERE!! I ordered a plug-in hybrid from Shift and the pictures
I ordered a plug-in hybrid from Shift and the pictures included a charging cord. When I picked up the vehicle there was no cord. They said they would order one and send it to me. 45 days, several emails and three hours of waiting on hold completed, I still do not have the cord.
High fees with little to no service
Their deals seem pretty good when compared to Carvana and CarMax until you realize they tag on an additional 1250 "concierge fee", which is pretty audacious considering they have eliminated test drives entirely. Then you have the shipping fee (and if you don't like the car once you see it, you're out whatever shipping fee you paid). Then a $200 fee if you don't finance through them and their lending partners. It's a bogus fee that I rarely see elsewhere. I guess that's to make up for the money they lose from not being able to markup your interest rate a few points, as they did mine. Fortunately, I happened to have a longstanding relationship with one of the recommended banks and was able to find out what my rate would have been if I were able to borrow from them without a markup. According to them, they are eliminating almost every aspect of face to face interaction at this point and shutting down their operations in some locations (including Austin, TX). They did not however mention anything about eliminating the "concierge fee" even though they are now the exact opposite of having any concierge type service. Finally, even if you live 1 mile away, you are going to pay a delivery fee ($150) but you can get a $150 "savings" by going to the local parking lot to pick it up yourself. They are really just a tech company that happens to have a lot of cars around to sell on their software platform. Given economic factors, I would not be surprised if they were to stop selling vehicles (directly) at all and just license their platform out to other dealers. I'd recommend going through a credit union for financing and once you have that set up, just go to a regular dealer ship where you can test drive any car you want without getting shafted if you end up not liking it.
Car was not available to view or test drive in person.
Car was not available to view or test drive in person. They wanted me to purchase the car first and then return it if I didn’t like it. That just made me uncomfortable.
I've been looking at this car and even messaged in.
I've been looking at this car and even messaged in. Not once did I get a return text, call, or email despite agreeing to an initial text from Shift. I let it simmer for a couple of days, filled out a form on their own website, and nothing. Finally checked back the following week, and the VW R32 I had sent a number of inquiries on was listed as sale pending. Looks like Shift hasn't changed since they've gone public.
I can’t get a person to schedule a test drive Shift
I can’t get a person to schedule a test drive Shift Oakland. And reading other reviews online about Shift Oakland, it doesn’t look good.
Worst buying experience ever
I had an appointment to test the car. First, I needed to wait 20 minutes for a salesman to come even though I had an appointment. I was told they didn't know where the keys of the car were. How you are running a business like this? !!! After extra 40 minutes waiting (already 1 hour) they keys appeared, they said the car was being washed, but they washed the car in the facilities, so how they couldn't know where the keys of the car car were? !!! Anyway, I made a separate appointment to buy the car and again the same "excuse", namely they didn't know where the keys were. For a second time also with appointment. After waiting for 90 minutes, they couldn't find the keys. So, I lost more than 3 hours (time going there and getting home) for nothing. If you want to have the worst buying experience event, go to Shift
