Expert 2019 Cadillac XTS review

Our expert's take
By Cars.com Editors
Full article

What Is the 2019 Cadillac XTS?

The five-seat Cadillac XTS full-size luxury sedan is offered with front- or all-wheel drive. The car received a mild refresh last year that brought updated styling, additional sound-deadening material for a quieter ride, and an updated version of the Cadillac User Experience multimedia system. A 304-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine is standard, and the V-Sport trim level uses a twin-turbo version that produces 410 hp. Both engines team with a six-speed automatic transmission. Competitors include the Lincoln Continental and Lexus ES.

What’s New on the 2019 Cadillac XTS?

An upgraded wireless charging system is designed to charge devices faster.

What Features in the 2019 Cadillac XTS Are Most Important?

All XTSs come standard with leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen for Cadillac’s CUE multimedia system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth streaming audio and wireless device charging. Navigation is available, along with a Bose surround-sound stereo, 22-way power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and a color head-up display.

A 360-degree camera system is optional. Available active safety features include blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist.

Should I Buy the 2019 Cadillac XTS?

Cadillac currently offers two full-size luxury sedans: the XTS and CT6. They’re similar in size and price, yet the CT6 is a bit bolder and more aggressive. The XTS is more of a traditional choice, but we like its roomy cabin, large trunk and the upscale interior materials on its high-end trims.

  • Modern and reliable.

We had 2 DTS before the 2013 XTS4. It compares very favorably with the exception of visibility, which is worse if you are of shorter stature. Comfort and convenience are very good and the quiet, handling and suspension are excellent. The trunk holds easily as much as the DTS. There is a tiny amount of vibration at speed, perhaps a result of the AWD, not annoying. Our family loves the car overall. We have a 2019 CT6, it is 5” longer but doesn’t feel bigger. The XTS4 is about an inch+ taller, and has the heads up display, overall I like it better.

A well built example which exemplifies the type of car that made Cadillac world famous. The build quality fit and finish are on par with the import competitors.

Great deal, not finished yet. Not dealers fault that credit reports were frozen. Needed time to fix it. Then all should be good to go.

  • The best car I ever drove.

I got a 2016 for my wife and found out that it was the best car that I had ever driven when I test drove it. The seats just hug you fits like it’s made for you and the ride is out of this world smooth and quiet. I tell you ,you can’t lose with this car. I’m going to get one for myself. Nate Foreman

  • Most mistake I've made financially.

I own a 2018 XTS AWD Luxury. At 28,000 miles, my car started making loud hissing sound. Technician found exhaust leak. The whole exhaust pipes were replaced. Within a year owning it, I've been to the dealership because of this car more often than I ever did in my life. Battery died twice. GPS screen got scratched from the inside and couldn't see a thing because of some surface material defect. The driver side seat belt fell off TWICE and had to replace it. The glove department light went off. The interior light strip went off. The squeak and rattle is worse than C4 1989 Corvette that I own. The transmission is slipping at 3rd to 4th gears. My company's fleet car Hyundai Santa Fe drives smoother than this piece of crap. The hood's paint is already losing its gloss because of the heat coming up from the engine as well. There's reason why people stopped buying Cadillac!

  • Have really enjoyed this car. Nice and smooth.

Love it, takes curves better than my Lexus LS 460. Very stylish. I am 6'4 and I have lots of leg room and head room. Very pleased with the gas mileage also.
