  • Probably Most Reliable Ford Ever, Best First Car!

Now I am going to start this out by saying I am not a Ford guy. My family always used Honda because of there unmatched reliability, so I had grown fond of Honda. But I got my first sport trac when I was 16, and anybody who was a teenager and had a vehicle would know you would have some fun with it. When I tell you I stress tested the Sport Trac, I really did. Everything from offroading, had pulled upto 3,000 lbs worth of scrap metal a few times(dont do that tho, was very dangerous, bent bumper ball), and general use and abuse of the vehicle. And at no point did I ever have a real complaint. Its engine had never given me a single issue, and I got it already with about 178k miles. Biggest issue with it was rust, but the engine is a BEAST. Its poor gas mileage makes up for the fact that its engine, in my opinion, is one of THEE best Ford had made in awhile. It was designed in like the 60s and it showed. The truck overall is really comfortable to drive in. Its GREAT in bad weather if you have 4WD or weight in the bed, legit have pulled out Jeeps and other supposed "Off-Roading" Vehicles when mud or snow hindered them, it is honestly a vehicle I'd feel safe driving through a Hurricane with. Its reliability is truly unmatched. I have heard other say its ok, and it may just be a flip of a coin or that half were made in one factory and the other in another factory, but I am on my second Sport Trac, only because my previous one had too much rust to pass. The only reason I hold its reliability to such high regard is because I beat the snot out of my little sport trac and it always got back up without an issue. From scrapping metal with it to just being a teenager and taking it offroading where it certainly shouldnt be able to go. I could go on about how much I love this truck, I may be biased due to it being my first car, but I wouldn't hold it in such high regard if it didnt get me through every snowstorm, mud ditch, big stream, and hot summer day hauling metal, all without any issue or hesitation. I couldn't recommend any other first car than the sport trac. Because it will keep you or your kid safe, both when they are using it normally, as well as when they be teenagers with it. My only issue with it was the fact it had a bumper ball, and that its bed was a bit short for hauling metal. But it makes you a master packer with ratchet straps. 10/10, would recommend it, especially as a first car.

  • 315k miles and still on it!!!

I bought my 2002 Sport Trac in 2014. It already had 150K miles in it. Now, 8 years later it has 315K and it runs like a champ. It got a bone yard tranny in 2017. Other than that, just maintenance stuff (oil, tires, brakes, alternator, water pump, tie rod ends).

  • Very versatile!

This vehicle which I bought new in 02 now has 184000 miles. It's been a great vehicle, VERY reliable and has never let me down. 4WD is excellent and will absolutely surprise you in deep snow, it's a little tank!. As I mentioned reliability has been excellent, interior comfortable and has held up very well. I highly recommend this vehicle if shopping for a trustworthy midsize with a small bed but don't need a full size.

  • Decent

Decent truck, good MPGs, love driving it. Problems do like but 234k and going strong still. Can't add or check transmission fluid from the engine bay tho.

  • I Miss My Sport Trac

I owned a Sport Trac for 14 years. We ran 253K miles before the transmission finally gave out. But the engine was still strong and I had only started putting money into it, more than routine maintenance, in the last year or so. It was a great truck and I have no clue why Ford stopped making them. All I know, is when the right one comes along, it's mine! I really miss her.

  • The most fun to drive truck I owned.

It really is fun to drive on the beach and perfect in the snow. Carrying stuff here to there always gets the job done. Other than oil change and regular maintenance she needs just a gasoline.

  • Long Time Friend

Had this for 16 yrs.and 258k miles. It did everything I needed done and only normal maintenance. Hauled, commuted, and towed with it. Added a bed mounted bike rack and it made family bike excursions easy.

  • 2002 Sport Trac. Best truck we ever had!

Dec.21,2017. We bought it brand new in 2002 and it lasted us 15 great years. We gave it to our daughter about 6 months ago until some guy ran a red light in Nov. and totaled it. We were sick! Hubby always took great car of it and believe me one tiny sound and he would know exactly what it was. When you have a car that long you know it Iike the back of your hand! Only really big expense was a transmission a year ago in 2016. It would still be rolling if not for that wreck. Again can't say enough good things about it!

  • Engine Replaced at 160K miles -$5,800

This is a great Sports Utility Truck. We took it on trips and left the Lexus in the garage. It pulled a light camper and small boat. Very useful as far as scope of use. Purchased vehicle with 123K miles and engine went out at 160K. Not sure how hard truck was run the first 123K miles. But I liked it enough to buy a Ford rebuild engine at an investment of $5,800.

  • Best Vehicle I ever owner

I bought my Ford Explorer Sport Trac new in 2002 in Minnesota. I owned it for 14 years and 220,000 miles. I am 60 years old, and it is by far the best vehicle I ever owned. Very reliable. Mostly only general maintenance in 14 years. Comfortable ride, roomy, comfortable and convenient interior. Even the tonneau bed cover still looked new after 10 years. After 10 years the step bars had to be removed due to rust, however I lived in Minnesota, so I'm sure the winter road salt was to blame.

  • Love this truck, I have put almost 100,000 miles!

Favorite vehicle I have owned. Runs great, only ever really had to do regular maintenance and the occasional fix due to age. It is 15 years old and gets me where I need to go everyday!
