2019 Ford Fusion Energi review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2019 Ford Fusion?

The Ford Fusion is a mid-size sedan that seats up to five people. A 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is standard, but a selection of turbocharged engines is available, including a 325-hp, twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 that goes in the Sport trim level. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid (Energi) variants are also offered. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional. Competitors include the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima.

What’s New on the 2019 Ford Fusion?

Standard active safety features include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. The sedan also gets front and rear styling updates.

What Features in the 2019 Ford Fusion Are Most Important?

Standard features include air conditioning, cloth upholstery, a 60/40, split-folding backseat, cruise control, rain-sensing windshield wipers and push-button start. Available features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power moonroof, remote start, an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system, navigation, a Sony premium stereo, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.

Should I Buy the 2019 Ford Fusion?

The Fusion’s ride and handling is a highlight, along with the performance-oriented Sport trim level, which is fun to drive. The available Sync 3 touchscreen multimedia system is easy to use, but the backseat is cramped, and thick roof pillars limit forward visibility. The Fusion was last redesigned for the 2013 model year and is nearing the end of its run; Ford has said this will be the final generation of the sedan.

Energi issues

I am still new to the car but have some important information to pass on. I recently purchased the car with only 14000 miles. Two important discoveries. First is that the modem for most of these cars is 3g. Ford Pass which gives you many features such as remote start, is 4g. Therefore 2019 and some 2020 have no connectivity for the services. Second. The car gets UP to 26 miles on a charge. It varies a great deal but I have had 22 at best. That is half a gallon of gas in dollars and it is a big battery to charge relative to what you get. I estimate it saves me .50 a charge. Car to car. It is better to buy the straight hybrid. The energi trunk is 8 cubic feet while the straight hybrid is 12. The only perk, and a big one, is the plug in can get you up to a 4000 tax break. Overall I actually like the car so far but the above issues are important to consider when buying

THe Second one I have owned

I really like this car! It is a PHEV and has a 25 miles range at speeds up to 84 mph. It goes to about 95% of the places I travel to and returns completely on electric power. It is perfect for my family. Ford made a huge mistakes when they stopped making sedans in the USA!

4.7

High tech at modest price

Overall the Fusion is a great car. The car I bought is a unique color. It’s very economical to drive and full of safety features .
