What Car Shoppers Need to Know
- There’s another new, cheaper 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee for off-roaders: the Laredo Upland.
- The Upland, Trailhawk and Overland trim levels will be the first 2027 Grand Cherokees to go on sale.
- The Upland starts at $49,990 (including destination fee), $8,475 more than the base Laredo.
Given the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s reputation, almost any buyer who checks the box for four-wheel drive expects to be able to conquer the trails. But some Grand Cherokees are more capable than others. In general, the two-row Grand Cherokee’s tidier dimensions make it more maneuverable than the three-row Grand Cherokee L, but the 2027 lineup sees Jeep add further differentiation to the two-row range: Two specialist trim levels return, and a third arrives to bring a degree of enhanced adventure at a lower price.
Pricing
The new arrivals to the 2027 Grand Cherokee lineup are available to order now, with deliveries set to begin toward the end of 2026; the remainder of the model lineup will follow later. Pricing for the first Grand Cherokees to go on sale (including $1,995 destination) is as follows:
- Laredo: $41,515
- Laredo Upland: $49,990
- Trailhawk: $54,995
- Overland: $57,895
What’s Changed for 2027?
Two of the most hardcore Grand Cherokees return to the lineup in the new model year. The Trailhawk and Overland are back after a one-year hiatus while the nameplate received a refresh for 2026. The Laredo Upland is a fresh addition to the family, sporting some of the Trailhawk’s look for a $5,005 discount. It wears what Jeep describes as a “Trailhawk-inspired” front bumper (with tow hooks, of course) and wheels, the latter measuring 18 inches and wrapped in all-terrain tires. It also features dark-gray exterior accents and a cabin upholstered in a blend of suede and synthetic leather. Elsewhere in the lineup, a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen is now standard on the entry-level Laredo and Laredo X, and the uplevel Limited gains more standard equipment. There are also new wheel designs for the Laredo, Laredo X, Laredo Altitude and Limited.
Fuel Economy
As part of the 2026 refresh, most Grand Cherokees got a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Dubbed Hurricane, the four-cylinder displaces 2.0 liters and generates 324 horsepower and 332 pounds-feet of torque. The entry-level Laredo trims are the last Grand Cherokees to be fitted with the old 3.6-liter V-6, which makes 293 hp and 260 pounds-feet. Both engines are backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard and 4WD optional on many trim levels, but 4WD is standard on the pricier ones. The four-cylinder returns an EPA-rated 21/27/23 mpg city/highway/combined with RWD and 20/25/22 with 4WD. With the V-6, the Grand Cherokee is rated at 19/26/22 with both RWD and 4WD. The three-row Grand Cherokee L’s fuel economy is only lower for some drivetrain configurations; in others, it’s the same as the two-row SUV’s. Where there’s a difference, the L is only 1 mpg less efficient in either the highway or combined rating.
Versus the Competition
The two-row 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts at a lower base price than most comparable mid-size SUVs. The three-row L is more expensive than many competitors, but we’d feel far more comfortable wandering off-pavement in the Jeep than in any of them.
