our expert's take

What Is the 2022 Ram 1500?

The Ram 1500 is a full-size pickup truck with room for up to six and a wide lineup of trim levels. It’s targeted at rivals like the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Toyota Tundra. The Ram separates itself from the competition with an interior in higher trims that wouldn’t look out of place in a luxury vehicle.

A mild-hybrid V-6 drivetrain is standard, but a turbo-diesel V-6 and a selection of V-8 engines, including a 702-hp, supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 in the TRX trim, are also offered. All engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and rear- and four-wheel-drive models are available.

What’s New on the 2022 Ram 1500?

New Ram 1500 variants include a Limited 10th Anniversary Edition as well as Longhorn SouthFork, Laramie G/T, Rebel G/T and BackCountry models. A new cabin air filtration system is standard, and Big Horn and higher trims get the Uconnect 5 multimedia system.

What Features in the 2022 Ram 1500 Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Remote keyless entry
  • Air conditioning
  • Cruise control
  • 5-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Bluetooth connectivity

Available features include:

  • Four-corner air suspension
  • Dual-panel moonroof
  • 8.4- or 12-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless device charging
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Should I Buy the 2022 Ram 1500?

The Ram 1500 proves that a modern full-size pickup can be anything from a no-frills workhorse to a luxury-laden palace — and even a performance beast in the form of the 702-hp TRX. The truck’s high-end trim levels are pricey, though the same is true of this truck’s key rivals. Less expensive trims still deliver a great blend of utility, power, convenience features and user-friendly controls.

Purchased a 2022 Laramie, RWD, Hemi 5.7L, Crew Cab with 21,000 miles. Other than no nav system, the truck is pristine. I am the 3rd owner; the other two maintained it beautifully. This V8 gets better city/hwy mileage than my for V6, 4x4, Crew Cab Nissan Frontier. I am most please with this vehicle!

  • The manufacturing of any RAM series trucks that has a

The manufacturing of any RAM series trucks that has a leather interior option is extremely faulty. The glue they use does not stick the leather to the substrate of the dash frame. I purchased a Max Care 8 yr - 125,000 mi warranty when the vehicle was purchased. Within 5 yr (55,000 mi) a bubble start to develop under the leather on the passenger side dash. This vehicle has always been either garage kept of has had a good quality sun shade blocking the sun from the dash. After talking with the dealership, they acknowledged this is a know issue since 2019. They said to call RAM Care directly to get them to authorized a full replacement (cost $2429) as this is a known defect. RAM is only authorizing payment of 55% by Dodge and making the customer eat the 45% (1093.05) even though I have a full active warranty and this is a know defect. RAM has no intention of correcting their manufacturing/vendor and what the customer to pay for their incompetence. Buyer beware - do not buy any Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep product with an leather interior option. Strange I have 25yr old Toyota Avalon that is full leather and is has not cracked, bubbled or separated in any fashion. Guess the foreign vehicles have a better quality control and product usage in their design. I guess I'll go back to Chevy. RAM, you had your chance and you chose NOT to stand behind you product.

  • I bought mine used.

I bought mine used. It had about 40k miles on it. I got a steal of a deal price wise. That being said. It drives smooth. Has all the power i need to haul and tow for work and life. Also plenty of room for hauling around family. I have had no complaints. It’s everything i was looking for in a vehicle. Ironically it is not the color I normally would buy. But even my particular wife loves the color and looks combination. She drives it as much as I do. I can’t say the same about her car. But, i am not a huge car person. One final thing. I am thoroughly impressed with the fuel consumption. Would recommend this vehicle (the big horn edition) to anyone.

  • Bought my 2022 RAM Limited in November of 2021.

Bought my 2022 RAM Limited in November of 2021. It currently has 15,450K miles so far. Had it into the shop 3 times for the back window leaking and open-close window not operating. U-connect issues is every time it updates OTA, some of the profile functions reset (like keeping the radio on after key-off). Nothing else were issues, and my mentality is every mechanical machine has quirks and if RAM only has this after 3 years, I can accept that better than having transmission/engine issues in this timeline. The ride is comfortable and having a good set of tires on it makes the ride so much better. I think any of the big three truck companies makes a great product, as I have had all of them plus a few imports. Keep up on the maintenance and it will be reliable for as long as you need it.

  • Bought this truck brand new, got the Big Horn with the 5.

Bought this truck brand new, got the Big Horn with the 5.7L Hemi (which is now extinct) and I cannot say enough on how much this vehicle wowed me. The pickup and power are great, the 4wd auto is very responsive and has been very useful in wet, and off road conditions. We stay in cabins in the mountains and the truck has no issues getting up hard to climb hills and racks terrain. I drive it daily to work and although I have had a few issues with the uconnect, nothing that has required dealership trips. I've had the truck 2 years now and 20000 miles with no problems. The interior is comfortable although I wish I would have sprung for the leather. The large screen is great and the interior design is the best of the big 3 American brands in comparable models. Also the price while too high, was still better than Chevy and most Fords. I'm a Ram guy now. Hopefully it stays this reliable for the price I paid.

  • Terrible Espirience.

Purchased a new 2022 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, engine cracked at 6k mile, take me 7 months to have replaced engine, but the in time to I'm waiting for new engine truck has 29k mile and has died, start push button do nothing, I pay for towing truck to bring this truck to Diler ship, this is my first Ram and VERY possibly LAST. From 14 months that I have this truck, almost 4 months truck stay in dealership and CRYSLER don't provide any loaner vehicle and don't want to compensate this, really terrible experience . My wife drive at JEEP Grand Cheroke Limited , I leased same cars for last couple years, now big chance that I switched this car to other brand, lease end at Feb 24, 2024.

First day of owning the 12 inch screen went dark and I useable. Became intermittent. Took just over a year for the dealership to fix with multiple trips. 11000 miles now and appears ok. Now I love the truck. .

  • RAM 1500 Black Widow

I have test driven Ford, and Chevrolet trucks before, but this Ram is the best of them all. Bering over 6ft tall, kind of narrows my choices in most vehicles in the market today. I purchased a 2022 RAM 1500 (Black Widow) from Joseph Seplow of Schumacher CDJR of Delray Beach. It is equipped with their e-Torque V-8 Hemi engine and yes I do like the and use the stop/start technology during most daily inner city driving (no problems and if I desire I can turn it off with the push of a button, its that simple). Interior comfort is better than many cars, and provides tons of head room for anyone tall. Exterior styling is great too. Plenty of power from the 5.7 although it is a little on the thirsty side, even considering it has the larger 33-gallon fuel tank. Even with an off-road emphasis and 35” all-terrain tires, the ride is very quiet and comfortable. Ram trucks are a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for, and since you're going to be using it everyday get what you feels comfortable and practical for your needs. Totally satisfied with my purchase.

  • Buyer Beware

The truck itself is a great one and I do enjoy it. But buyer beware. Ram re4movea piece of software on some Ram pickups that eliminate the use of the phone button on the steering wheel and the two usb ports lose a lot of functions. You can't show Google maps from your phone on the screen. You cannot make the truck a hotspot due the feature being removed. check the window sticker for a credit at the end of the list of features.

  • 2022 Ram Rebel Is Top Notch

I’ve driven Ford, Toyota, and Chevrolet, but this Ram is the best of them all. I went with the Rebel and got one of the last non-eTorque V8 Hemi’s. No dumb stop/start technology with this combination. Interior comfort is better than many cars. Exterior styling is great too. Plenty of power from the 5.7 although it is a little on the thirsty side. Even with an off-road emphasis and 33” all-terrain tires, the ride is very quiet and comfortable. Ram trucks are a little on the pricey side, but Ram still offers some pretty decent incentives at times. You do get what you pay for. Very satisfied with my purchase.
