Subaru

Subaru is a Japanese manufacturer with a dedicated consumer base. All-wheel drive has been a Subaru staple, but the automaker branched out in mid-2012 when it debuted the BRZ rear-drive sports coupe — a close relative of the Toyota GR86.

The BRZ and rally-bred WRX compact sedan (both redesigned for 2022) form its performance lineup. The automaker’s entry-level car is the Impreza compact hatchback.

The popular Outback mid-size wagon was redesigned with a boxier, SUV-like shape for 2026. Subaru's more traditional SUVs are the compact Forester and three-row Ascent. The Crosstrek, Forester and Outback offer off-road-fortified Wilderness trims for further adventuring off the beaten path. For 2023, Subaru introduced its first all-electric vehicle: the Solterra compact SUV. Similar to the jointly-developed BRZ and GR86 coupes, the Solterra shares its platform with the Toyota bZ. The new-for-2026 Trailseeker and Uncharted EVs also share platforms with similar Toyota EVs.
