I was very fortunate to have found the rare truck that I wanted at this local dealership. My alternatives were mainly sketchy eBay sellers and less than professional used car dealerships. However, Lester Glenn is a major operation that has a good reputation - and for good reason. My experience with them was very low stress and Sammy Velazquez was very accommodating, going so far as to personally deliver my truck to my home a few miles away. He was very low pressure and basically just gave me the keys and told me to check it out for myself with a test drive. After deciding that I would take the truck, we took care of adding the truck to my insurance while we waited for the finance guy to finish with the customer ahead of me. This, unfortunately, took quite a long time because I believe they were new and still mastering the systems. My experience with the finance guy was probably par for the course. He had added about $10,000 of optional junk to the bill and apologized, stating that he "has to do it this way." We then went over the extras and I decided I did not want any of them. Fortunately, they were removed quickly and without fuss. If I had one complaint, I'd like to see this practice reversed. They should really start with a clean slate and go over the options, adding only what the customer wants. I don't know if this is common practice, but I did find that aspect a bit off-putting. Apart from the tedious paperwork, everything else went smoothly. After paying for the truck with a personal check, Sammy delivered it minutes after I arrived home myself. The truck itself, despite being a 2014, looked like new and had been thoroughly cleaned up with all the basics checked before I bought it, which I really appreciated. If you see a vehicle that you like at this dealership, I'd recommend them.

I checked online sites like Cars.com, Carfax, and CarGurus, visited around 10 dealerships (both independent lots and franchises), made tons of phone calls, and even explored Carvana and CarMax. Too many places baited me with low online prices, only to pile on thousands in hidden fees once I showed up—things like mandatory down payments, wear-and-tear charges, inspection fees, and dealership add-ons. But from this experience, I learned a lot about how dealerships really work and gained some valuable knowledge: never fully trust the prices posted online without confirming the true out-the-door cost in person. After five frustrating in-person visits, I was ready to give up on traditional dealerships and just overpay at CarMax to avoid the headaches. That’s when I spotted a listing on Cars.com from Island Subaru. Right away, I met sales representative Christopher Chavous (everyone calls him Chris). He was patient, professional, and didn’t bombard me with unnecessary questions or personal info. He showed me the Crosstrek I was interested in, sat with me for two detailed test drives, and explained all the features thoroughly. The standout moment? In an industry full of tricks, this level of honesty instantly built trust, which is everything when buying a car. After some fair negotiation, the manager approved a solid discount, and we sealed the deal that same day. Since it was Saturday and close to closing (they couldn’t finish the NY inspection), they went the extra mile and loaned me a brand-new Subaru Crosstrek to drive until Monday when my car was ready. Island Subaru transformed a potentially nightmare first-time buying experience into something positive and memorable. Their transparency, honesty, and outstanding customer service set them apart.
