What Car Shoppers Need to Know

The Chevrolet Corvette has long been known as a budget supercar. For decades now, Chevy’s relatively affordable coupe and convertible have been harrying cars with price tags double, triple or more than that of the Corvette. That position only grows stronger for 2027: The Corvette has an all-new engine that makes 45 more horsepower and 55 pounds-feet more torque than the 2026 model’s 6.2-liter V-8, and its price increases just $1,000.

Pricing

The Corvette lineup has never been more diverse. In addition to the base Stingray, the family includes the new-for-2027 Grand Sport and Grand Sport X (nee E-Ray), Z06, ZR1 and ZR1X. All are available as either a coupe with a removable roof panel or as a convertible with a power-operated top. The non-electrified cars — Stingray, Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1 — are rear-wheel drive, while the Grand Sport X and ZR1X are all-wheel drive. Most convertibles are $7,000 more than the equivalent coupe, but the premium on the ZR1 and ZR1X is $10,000.

What’s Changed for 2027?

The new model year brings major change at the bottom of the Corvette lineup. The LT2 6.2-liter V-8 that powered the Stingray and E-Ray through 2026 is gone, replaced by an all-new 6.7-liter V-8 dubbed LS6. The LS6 makes 535 hp and 520 pounds-feet.

For 2027, the Grand Sport joins the Corvette family. As with past Corvette Grand Sports, this model is more or less a Z06 with the base engine. That means it wears the wider bodywork of its more extreme siblings and gets their brake and suspension upgrades — but with the 535-hp LS6 engine instead of the Z06’s 670-hp LT6, it is some $33,000 cheaper. Given that it, too, has the wider bodywork, the base engine and an electric motor like the ZR1X, the hybrid Corvette formerly known as E-Ray is rechristened as the Grand Sport X for 2027.

Performance

Chevrolet says the LS6 powers the Stingray to a new performance milestone: a 200 mph top speed. That’s a higher top speed than the Grand Sport, the Grand Sport X and the Z06, all of which are slowed by their wider bodywork. While the ZR1 and ZR1X sport the same broad fenders, their outlandish power overcomes the additional drag, and they were able to hit 233 mph. Chevrolet also says the Stingray can now accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and clear the quarter-mile in 11 seconds flat at 124 mph.

With the new LS6 at its base, the Corvette’s powertrain lineup is more tightly grouped than before, but it still represents a spread of more than 700 hp from least to most powerful. Chevrolet has yet to release pricing for the 2027 Grand Sport X, but it will likely be the next step up the pricing ladder. Combining the Stingray/Grand Sport’s LS6 with an electric motor driving the front wheels, it generates a combined 721 hp.

The Corvette Z06 gets the 8,500-rpm 5.5-liter LT6 V-8 with 670 hp and 460 pounds-feet. A pair of turbochargers transform the LT6 into the ZR1’s LT7, which makes 1,064 hp and 828 pounds-feet. Add the Grand Sport X’s electric motor to the LT7 and you have the ZR1X’s 1,250 hp. All 2027 Chevrolet Corvettes have an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Standard and Optional Features

Standard performance equipment on the Corvette Stingray includes 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels and a limited-slip differential. The Grand Sport gets 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, as well as adaptive dampers. The Grand Sport X throws in carbon-ceramic brakes. The Z06, ZR1 and ZR1X install different powertrains in that same basic package.

The Stingray and Grand Sport are available in three trim levels: 1LT, 2LT and 3LT. The contents of those trim levels are similar for the Z06, but they are renamed 1LZ, 2LZ and 3LZ. For the ZR1 and ZR1X, choices are culled to just 1LZ and 3LZ, with equipment from the 2LZ divided between the base and uplevel trims.

Versus the Competition

Its unique combination of capability and accessible pricing leaves the present-day Corvette without a clearly defined competitive set. Especially with the potent new LS6 engine, it is significantly quicker and faster than its traditional rivals and other cars with similar price tags. The cars on the table below are their respective lineups’ base models. To come close to the Stingray’s performance, you’d need to compare it to uplevel derivatives like the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC ($108,085 base price) or Porsche 911 GTS ($183,350).
