The all-new 2026 Jeep Recon isn’t just an electric Jeep — it’s the electric Jeep. With removable doors and glass, chunky weather-resistant interior accoutrement, 33-inch all-terrain tires and 9.1 inches of ground clearance, the Recon is about as close to an all-electric Wrangler as you’re gonna get for the foreseeable future. And it looks it, too.

Wrangler-esque Character

Based on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform shared with the Wagoneer S, the Recon presents as the perfect mashup of a Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, with a pinch of Land Rover Defender sprinkled in for good measure. Though it’s a unibody construction and considered a crossover, there’s more purpose and Wrangler-esque character in its profile than its bones suggest.
I think the Recon looks quite good in photos, but it’s even better in person. The late-availability, on-road-focused Overland trim is sharp, but the off-road-focused Moab trim is the one that will attract the most Jeepsters given its rugged capability and on-brand vibe. The Recon’s certainly got the mechanical gumption to earn its Trail Rated badge; at launch, all will arrive with standard 4WD from dual electric motors good for a stellar total of 650 horsepower and 620 pounds-feet of torque. For the more technical stuff, there’s an electronic locking differential and three distinct terrain modes to toggle between.
From a usability and practicality standpoint, the Recon trounces the Wrangler. Jeep’s claimed 65.9 cubic feet of rear cargo stowage with the second row folded means you’ve got room to glamp, and a decent frunk is perfect for hiding valuables when you’re out on a hike. Occupant space in all rows is impressive, with tons of headroom and legroom when sitting behind my 5-foot-11 self. The touchpoints and general interior accoutrement are appropriately chunky and weather-resistant where relevant in prep for the doors coming off. Which, by the way, Jeep says is possible without tools — a change thankfully levied onto the 2026 Wrangler, as well.
Release Date and Pricing
I unfortunately had but 20 minutes with Jeep’s newest adventure EV, but that was enough to know even Jeep diehards will dig the Recon. At launch in early 2026, the Jeep Recon will be available solely in Moab trim for a starting price right at $66,995 (price includes $1,995 destination charge), with the less aggro Overland trim and its pricing to come later.
