What Is the 2023 BMW X2?
The subcompact BMW X2 uses the same platform as the German automaker’s boxier (and more practical) X1 SUV, but the five-seat X2 has a more coupelike roofline, giving it a sportier appearance. The X2 is powered by the same 228-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the X1, with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. Competitors include the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, Lexus UX and Mini Clubman.
What’s New on the 2023 BMW X2?
BMW made minor changes to the X2’s option-package content for 2023, and a new Edition GoldPlay appearance package adds Galvanic Gold accents and other special trim touches. The performance-focused M35i and its 301-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder have been discontinued.

The BMW X2 offers a notably sleeker, more stylish look than its X1 sibling, but you pay for the image upgrade both in purchase price and in practicality. Interior space is good considering the X2’s small size, but visibility is poor. Note that although the X1 was redesigned for 2023, the X2 continues on its existing platform this year. We expect a redesigned X2, based on the new X1 design, to debut for 2024.
