2020 BMW X2 review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2020 BMW X2?

Introduced for the 2018 model year, the subcompact BMW X2 uses the same platform as the automaker’s X1 SUV. The five-seat X2, however, has a more coupelike roofline. It’s powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the X1 and comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. Competitors include the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and Mini Clubman.

What’s New on the 2020 BMW X2?

The X2’s standard navigation system gets a larger 8.8-inch screen.

What Features in the 2020 BMW X2 Are Most Important?

Standard active safety features include forward collision warning with daytime pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and automatic high-beam headlights.

Other standard features include LED headlights and foglights, a power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-adjustable front sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, navigation with an 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity and automatic air conditioning.

Available features include a panoramic moonroof, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a Harman Kardon surround-sound system and an adaptive suspension.

Should I Buy the 2020 BMW X2?

The BMW X2 is an intriguing mashup of small SUV and, in M35i form, performance hatchback. Interior space is good considering its small footprint, but visibility is poor. Choosing the optional M Sport suspension improves handling.

Great car for the money

Great car. I was always a Toyota man, but wife liked the styling of the X2. I am happy I bought it. Superb handling, excellent gas mileage (25-27) overall. I am very happy with the X2.

At this point the vehicle is a great buy.

Originally had no intention of purchasing a BMW, however, I saw it at COSTCO, looked at the price and it was comparable to another make of vehicle on the same line as the BMW X2, but for a lower price. Knowing the BMW reputation, I decided to go look.

Safe, stylish, technical marvel!

The BMW X2 is a joy. It is priced right and totally meets my needs . The German engineering and technical touches are a marvel. It is sporty and fun to dive, yet fuel efficient. Truly, a smart car in design and maneuverability.
