Expert 2027 Chevrolet Bolt review

Our expert's take

chevrolet bolt 2027 exterior oem 10 jpg

Key Points

  • The reborn electric vehicle is derived from the previous Bolt EUV.
  • 255 miles of range
  • Base price of $28,995 (all prices include $1,395 destination charge) makes it the cheapest new EV

One of the first affordable mass-market EVs, the Chevrolet Bolt was discontinued in 2023 just as the market for mainstream EVs shifted into high gear. Chevrolet followed the Bolt with electric versions of the Equinox and Blazer SUVs, but even the cheapest Equinox EV cost $7,500 — 27% — more than the most budget-friendly Bolt.

Now, the Bolt is back for the 2027 model year. It’s based on the larger, more spacious Bolt EUV derivative, and, priced as if inflation doesn’t exist, it steals the crown of most affordable new EV from the 2026 Nissan Leaf.

Release Date and Pricing

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is on sale now. It’s offered in only two trim levels, and the starting price undercuts the base price of the 2026 Leaf by $2,490. Prices are as follows:

  • LT: $28,995
  • RS: $32,995

Trim Levels and Safety Features

The tiny 2027 Bolt is not merely affordable; it is a huge value. The entry-level Bolt LT features 17-inch aluminum wheels, heated side mirrors, and keyless entry and start. Inside, you’ll find black cloth seats with blue and gray stitching, manually adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, an 11-inch digital instrument panel and an 11.3-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In.

The RS is distinguished by its black wheels and “grille” panel. It adds a heavy dose of upmarket equipment, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel and ambient cabin lighting.

The 2027 Bolt is also packed with modern safety technologies. Standard features include forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot intervention, front and rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking, automatic high beams and rear parking sensors. GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous hands-free highway driving tech is optional, as are a 360-degree camera system, front parking sensors, road-sign recognition and a driver-attention monitor.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The 2027 Bolt drives its front wheels with a single electric motor producing 210 horsepower and 169 pounds-feet of torque. With a 65-kilowatt-hour battery, the Bolt has a manufacturer-estimated range of 255 miles for both trim levels. A North American Charging Standard charge port allows it to use Tesla Superchargers, and a Combined Charging System adapter is available for drivers who want more public-charging options. Capable of DC fast charging at upwards of 150 kilowatts, the 2027 Bolt can replenish its battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 26 minutes. On a home Level 2 AC charger, it can charge at up to 11.5 kW, which can recoup up to 40 miles of range per hour.
