After 13 years and 300,000 plus miles, I decided it was time to purchase a new car. For me there was never a question in my mind that the 2016 Kia Optima EX for was the car for me. I choose the color and options that I wanted prior heading off to the dealership to make the purchase. I even went as fair to get pre-approval thru my credit union in an effort to make the process go a little smoother.
On May 6th, I visited the Kia dealership in my home town to make my big purchase. I never really felt comfortable with the sales staff. Maybe because I knew what I wanted when I walked in, they never tried to sale me anything other than that. I felt like they just wanted me to sign my name on the paperwork and move on to next person. After locating the car I wanted, it was time to work out a deal. Well, the best offer they could make me only included the standard Kia rebate. I was told I did not qualify the Kia Summer promotion that was being advertised. After processing the paperwork, the monthly installments came out to be $20 more than what I wanted to pay but I thought it is just $20 and decided to proceed with the deal. What happened next gave me a shock to my system. When I went in to the Finance Office, 6 months had been added on to the deal along with an additional $35 to the monthly payments (this was do cover the gap insurance and extended warranty). Maybe if we had discussed that prior to going in to the Finance Office, it would not have been such a shock to me. I told the salesman, I would have to think about the offer and call him back with a decision. 78 monthly installments on a car was never on my radar.
I had did my research the night before and I knew the only dealership in Louisiana with the car (color and options) I wanted was All Star Kia of Baton Rouge. I had their phone number so I decided to call to see what kind of offer they could provide. Within 15 minutes, Tiffany Griffin and Donovan were able to get me my car as well as set up me up with their Summer Ride on Us promotion. I drove two and half hours for an unbelievable experience. Tiffany, Donovan, and Jeff provided excellent customer service from start to finish. The entire process took less than two hours. They delivered exactly what they promised. Not to mention, they saved me nearly $9,000 and 12 monthly payments. Because of their efforts, my next car will be a Kia and I will not wait 13 years to purchase another car.
The industry I work in is guest service oriented. Everyday we look to examples to share with our staff on how to make our business better. I could not wait to get back to work to share this experience with my co-workers. I am a strong believer that you lead by example. All Star Kia of Baton Rouge is a true leader in my book.
