Very Positive Experience at Fitzgerald Toyota
November 6, 2018
Our old Toyota Highland was dying. We had not been car shopping for 15 years and we were dreading it. Then we met Pete Musumeci. Pete helped us narrow our search over the phone so when we arrived we were just looking for Rav4s. There were lots of choices of different colors, years, interiors, miles. All seemed to be checked out certified and in good to great condition. Pete patiently explained that they would not deal on price but had set the prices to be low. This seemed to be the case. Some cars were on clearance so even better prices. Pete walked around with us and was there for any questions or clarifications but also left us alone when we needed to confer. It was a very comfortable process. Good information but not too much. Pete was very knowledgable and could always give us more detail if we needed it. His explanation was mostly free of jargon and worked well for me, my wife and out new-driver teenage daughter. We had good test drives on a couple cars and quickly found one we liked.
When we went back into the showroom and sat at Pete's desk the process was a bit less fun. He had to go through some service plans and paperwork that was not so interesting and we got bogged down. When talk turned to buying our used car, Pete and his manager quickly made an offer. It was pretty fair for an old car. Took away a big hassle for us. We already had our loan pre-approved so the finance part did not take very long at all. We did have a kind of tedious meeting with a woman who wanted us to buy extras like mats etc. We hadn't eaten lunch and just asked her to go away. Later in the process Pete showed up with some free mats for us which he said he felt should come with a car. Very nice. Pete followed us all through the process even helping us with tags at the end. We know he was selling us a car but we felt he was advocating for us throughout the process. At the end of the day we were done at 4pm which was exactly when Pete told us we would be done 5-1/2 hours earlier. If you had told me I would be at a car dealer that long I would say I would be annoyed, exhausted, ready to go, grrrr. This did feel like a long day and it was, but did not feel like 5-1/2 hours. This was because of Pete. He seemed happy we got a good car for a good price. Sure we could have gotten the same car for even less without a sun roof -- but my wife really wanted the sun roof. Pete helpfully explained we could get a sun roof put in the less expensive car if we wanted. Very helpful (although we did not go that way.) He gassed up the car and made it all ready to go.
It was not all perfect. The car we came there to see was gone when we got there. Pete took it head on and said he knew that looked bad and explained what happened. Then he found a better car for us anyway. They had many cars on the lot. Also when it came down to just two cars, one had been in a slight fender bender. Somehow we ended up with that one -- although it was certified so that does not matter -- but the communication was not clear there. Don't know what happened. You do have to listen carefully to everything even when you have a friendly, helpful salesperson like Pete. Buying a car is not fun. Pete almost makes it fun. He seems very trustworthy and if there were glitches it is probably because we were trying to get out of there and we were tired. Overall a very good experience and we are very happy with our car. Fitzgerald is a well run dealership. You can feel good about going there. But try to get Pete if you can. He will help if you dread the car buying process as much as we do! And he will make sure you get a good car at a pretty good price and give you options. We are planning to buy our next car from him.
