2017 Audi S5 review: Our expert's take

Vehicle Overview

What it is: As with Audi’s other car lines, the German automaker offers an S version of the A5 that has higher performance credentials. Like the A5, the S5 is available as a coupe or convertible, but under the hood is a 333-horsepower, supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine instead of a turbo four-cylinder.

What it is: The four-seat A5 coupe and Cabriolet convertible are based on the previous generation of the A4 sedan and are aimed at two-door luxury models such as the BMW 4 Series, Cadillac ATS coupe and Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe. Audi offers a performance version of the A5, the S5, that targets sports cars like the Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman.

New for 2017
Front and rear parking sensors and S Line Competition Plus exterior trim are now standard on both body styles. Both versions also get a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and, with the automatic transmission, shift paddles. The coupe’s optional Black Optic Package features 19-inch gloss-black wheels, gloss-black side mirror housings and a gloss-black grille surround.

Super reliable. No issues from new.

Great coupe. Nice lines, runs great. Excellent transmission/dual clutch. Shifts like no other. Suspension adjustment and shift points on the fly. Dynamic is bad xxx

Fun to drive and 1st convertible

Tons of performance. Stylish Convertible with reasonable gas mileage. Only issue is need for Premium gas as wouuld think todays engine would allow for multiple grades.

fast,and comfortable. nothing can beat s5 in this price range. this is one of my dream car beside the wrangler that i own right now.
