Expert 2007 Chrysler Crossfire review

Vehicle Overview
Chrysler introduced a shapely new low-slung sports coupe for 2004. Considered the first tangible result of the DaimlerChrysler merger, the Crossfire is built in partnership with Karmann in Germany. The Crossfire’s bodysides are relatively tall, but glass surfaces are minimal. Little is changed for 2007, beyond new airbags, a monochromatic appearance package and a new bright-silver paint scheme. The Crossfire is available as both a coupe and a convertible.

Either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox teams with a 215-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6. The supercharged SRT6 Crossfire has been discontinued.

Exterior
The Crossfire’s styling is a blend of edges and subtle curves. A center spine runs the full length of the coupe and serves as a dominant design feature.

A signature winged Chrysler badge up front spans the upper width of the chrome grille. The headlights have circular elements that carve their way into the front fascia. Six grooves run the full length of the long hood. Side air louvers highlight the bodysides. The rear wheels are 19 inches in diameter, while the front ones measure 18 inches.

Wide rear fenders end in large, sculpted taillights and dual exhaust pipes. A tapered boat-tail shape highlights the rear end, which emphasizes the large rear wheels, tires and fender. A retractable spoiler activates when the Crossfire reaches 60 mph.

A black monochromatic appearance package is available on the coupe and roadster’s base trim levels and removes the chrome accents from the car’s body.

Interior
Only two occupants fit inside the Crossfire’s twin-cockpit interior. A metallic center console flows from the top of the instrument panel through the center of the car.

The seats are trimmed in either cloth or leather upholstery. The ignition switch is on the instrument panel. The white-on-black gauges have a chrome trim ring.

Under the Hood
The Crossfire’s 3.2-liter V-6 generates 215 hp and 229 pounds-feet of torque. Either a six-speed manual gearbox or an adaptive AutoStick five-speed automatic transmission can be installed.

Safety
Side-impact airbags, all-disc antilock brakes and an electronic stability system are standard. Chrysler updated the car’s airbags for 2007, adding knee airbags for the driver and passenger, making the driver’s front airbag a multi-stage deployment one and adding an occupant-sensing passenger airbag.

  • Beautiful memories of a beautiful car

I've owned my 2007 Crossfire since 2009, and I've never fallen out of love with it. I have the roadster in cherry red, and the car's looks still take my breath away. I particularly like the styling of the rear end; curvaceous and muscular at the same time. To be honest, there are some issues a prospective owner should consider, the major one being running costs. Unlike the visually-similar Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky (which are basic family sedans with stylish bodies attached) the Crossfire is a real sports car with both looks and performance: however, that means the equipment is of a higher grade. For example, you can expect to pay around $250-$350 for a new battery; the tires need to be high speed-rated, low-profile run-flats, which means a basic set of new ones will probably set you back around $3,500 to $4,000; and an oil change will leave relieve you of $120. However, ownership of this beautiful car will make you completely forget about the hole in your wallet. I bought mine in Colorado, but drove it in Wyoming. While I lived there I believe I owned the only Crossfire in that state, which is really cool. It constantly received admiring looks and comments because most people have never seen one before. Believe me, wherever you drive it, if you meet another Crossfire on the road it's time for flashing lights, horns, and frantic waving! My time with the Crossfire in Wyoming was truly wonderful: swooping across that magnificent landscape, no other cars within 50 miles and prairie roads like smooth ribbons stretching out to the horizon and beyond... well, that's why we own Crossfires. In fact, one other slight drawback of the car is that it seems happiest cruising along at around 80 mph, which can be a problem if you encounter a highway patrol officer who doesn't share your love of the Crossfire!

  • Worth every penny!

I have the Crossfire SRT-6 Roadster model and I am amazed at how many people have never seen this vehicle. I guess it stands to reason since only 1500 were made worldwide through all production years. The Supercharged 3.2L V6 is incredibly responsive with a 330 hp output. It can hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. It's top "controlled" speed is 155 mph...which I tested during the 1st month of the Covid shutdown. I am 6 ft and fit perfectly in the cockpit. The exterior is the Sapphire Silver Blue with a black convertible top. The interior is black leather. The silver interior trim does give it a sterilized appearance. The suspension is stiff and the steering wheel is fixed but I didn't buy it for offroading; It corners beautifully. It is an incredible car and the used prices really don't reflect the quality of craftsmanship and scarcity. If you have a chance to pick one up...you won't regret it.

  • Affordable German/American engineering

Bought this vehicle for my daughter. Only had 68k on the odometer. It?s a limited edition, so it came with lots of upgrades. The Daimler-Chrysler merger created the Crossfire, which is basically a Mercedes coupe, wrapped in Mopar skin. It boasts a 6 speed, 3.2 liter V6 engine, which isn?t blazing fast, but quick enough. The offset wheels give it a sporty look, to compliment the automatic rear spoiler. People take second looks at this vehicle, because they really can?t tell just what it is. My daughters particular Crossfire is Oyster gold with Mercedes silver trim, so it appears just a bit more exotic than you?d expect from a Chrysler. She loves her first car. I also feel confident about this vehicle and I?m glad that I didn?t sacrifice too much style for reliability.

  • Head Turner and Pure Fun

An instant classic, this Crossfire looks and performs like it came off the showroom floor yesterday. It can tame curved back roads and purr along the highway. It will gain the attention of those who visit it at car shows. A remarkable vehicle and value.

  • Fantastic - better than a Ferrari

I bought this car used based on my desire for the car when they were introduced in 2004 and the great reviews. I've read about every review there has been since 2004 and put my faith and judgment in what the consumer says and not the so called "experts". I am not dissapointed - drove the car 1500 miles from South Florida to KC, MO in two days. Never experienced anything but pleasure the whole trip and look forward to many more satisfying miles. For a big guy, the seats are a bit tight but I will probably never be in the saddle for 1500 miles at basically one time again. Mine is the Limited Coupe in Oyster Gold with the Charcoal and Cedar leather interior and manual 6-speed trans. What a fantastic combination: looks, performance, handling, economy, and more. One of the biggest bang for the buck there is. Took advantage of the current low resale value but I bet someday the public will wake up and drive these things up in price. Good for me (us). I've owned over a hundred cars in my lifetime (yes, including a Ferrari) and consider this to be one of the best and most fun.

  • Fire Breather!

This is one of the best cars on the road! It has ample power from the Mercedes 3.2 V6 and is as dependable as taxes. Handling, comfort, style, durability, and most important: stopping ability! Few cars will ever ascribe to this defining group of characteristics. I continually discover its positive attributes as I own and drive this work of art--like a long book where you learn something new on each page. Chrysler has ceased production of this classic, but there still are plenty of certified mechanics to service my beauty. My Limited has a manual top which I prefer as it operates flawlessly. Aftermarket parts are abundant for items needing replacement. I can always find what I need from the internet, friends, or ads. This is a Mercedes from which quality has never been a question! I had my hands on every square inch of this car before I purchased it and found that it has relatively easy access and serviceability. My son is 6'4" and loves my Crossfire top up or down! (Glad he lives in another state!) I have had a long list of sports cars with a shorter throw in the trans and the power of a dragster. Thankfully my Crossfire is a true sports car with an excellent combination of important characteristics other than pure power. Beauty, value, durability, endless fun!
