2019 Jeep Wrangler review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2019 Jeep Wrangler?

The Wrangler is Jeep’s wildly popular 4×4. It's available as a two-door or four-door SUV, the latter known as the Wrangler Unlimited. The two-door model has room for four people, and the four-door seats five. It's powered by a standard 285-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine that teams with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an available eight-speed automatic. There’s also an optional 270-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that pumps out 295 pounds-feet of torque; it pairs with the eight-speed automatic. Open-air freedom is easily accessible with the Wrangler thanks to its removable doors, fold-down windshield and removable tops. Four-wheel drive is standard, and the Rubicon trim level features upgraded mechanicals for serious off-roading.

What’s New on the 2019 Jeep Wrangler?

Adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning are now included in the available Advanced Safety Group Package.

What Features in the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Are Most Important?

The four-door Wrangler Unlimited is a rugged people hauler that offers a power-sliding top. Looking for more insulation for colder months? A three-piece hardtop with a rear defroster and full-framed doors is available. Cloth seats are standard, but leather upholstery is optional. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are also optional. Moving up to the 7- or 8.4-inch touchscreen multimedia system adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. With the four-door Wrangler Unlimited, both engines offer 3,500 pounds of maximum towing capacity, but that drops to 2,000 pounds in two-door models.

Should I Buy the 2019 Jeep Wrangler?

If you’re a first-time Wrangler buyer, note that the high starting price of around $30,000 doesn’t get you many creature comforts. You won’t have power windows, power locks or air conditioning; those features are optional. What you do get, however, is an iconic, durable and rugged 4×4 that’s fun to drive and capable off-road. Its recent redesign for the 2018 model year increased its overall refinement — especially on paved surfaces — without diluting the qualities that make the Wrangler what it is.

This cars have too many problems.

This cars have too many problems. The forums tell the story, and they just count it as "it's a jeep" Corrosion problems all over the place, specially around the hinges. After 36k miles, I had the engine rockers start knocking, it turns out this is typical. The jeep wobble of death is real. Radio would turn off randomly, then after a few minutes would come on again. Roof leaks between panels. The worst part is that none of the problems I encountered were isolated issues, they are very typical for those cars.
