2022 Chevrolet Suburban review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban?

The Chevrolet Suburban is an extended-length version of the Tahoe full-size SUV that seats up to nine and offers considerably more cargo space and a bit more third-row room. It’s powered by a standard 355-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 engine that works with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A 420-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 and a 277-hp, turbo-diesel 3.0-liter inline-six are available. The Suburban comes with rear- or four-wheel drive, and competitors include the Ford Expedition Max and GMC Yukon XL

The Suburban has 41.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second row and 23 cubic feet behind its third row, according to Cars.com’s cargo measurements. You can see how it scored in our Car Seat Check here.

What’s New on the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban?

Lane-keeping assist and front and rear parking sensors are now standard, and reverse automatic braking is available on Premier and High Country trim levels. LT and higher trims get a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a multimedia system running Google technology. The 6.2-liter V-8 is now available on RST, Z71 and Premier trim levels, and the Z71 can also have an electronic limited-slip differential.

What Features in the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 18-inch aluminum wheels
  • LED headlights and taillights
  • Remote start
  • Cloth seating
  • Tri-zone automatic air conditioning
  • 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Satellite radio
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Available features include:

  • 20- or 22-inch wheels
  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Power-retractable running boards
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Second-row captain’s chairs
  • 10.2-inch multimedia screen
  • Bose premium stereo
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Head-up display
  • Rearview camera mirror
  • Wireless device charging
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Adaptive air suspension

Should I Buy the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban?

The Suburban has more of the things shoppers looking at full-size SUVs want: lots of power, plus passenger and cargo space. Capable of towing heavy loads or venturing off-road in Z71 guise, the Suburban is a multidimensional, family-friendly workhorse. You’ll need lots of room to park it, however, and the available gas V-8s are thirsty.
