Lexus

Toyota's luxury division, Lexus, launched in 1989 with the 1990 LS 400 full-size sedan, but it’s the RX 300 SUV, one of the world’s first car-based crossovers, that became a benchmark for both luxury and non-luxury brands and went on to propel Lexus to the position of bestselling luxury marque in the U.S. for many years.

The LS sedan is being retired after the 2026 model year, but the RX continues as a brand staple; its model lineup has expanded to include hybrid, performance-oriented hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. Lexus offers smaller models in the IS and ES sedans and the UX and NX crossovers. The larger truck-based GX and LX SUVs both offer three rows of seats and enhanced off-road and towing capability, and the brand finally gained a proper three-row crossover-style SUV in the 2024 TX. Though Lexus has been more tentative in entering the all-electric vehicle market than most luxury marques, it offers the RZ compact SUV and is adding an all-electric variant of the 2026 ES.
