Mitsubishi Lancer

The redesigned 2008 Lancer featured sleeker exterior styling, a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission in place of the previous Lancer’s traditional four-speed automatic. A performance-oriented Ralliart version with a 237-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine was added for 2009. With its more powerful engine, dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the Ralliart split the difference between the standard Lancer and the top-dog Lancer Evolution in price and performance. The Sportback name was revived on a five-door hatchback version of the sedan for 2010; it lasted through the 2014 model year. A mid-line SE sedan with AWD and a 168-hp, 2.4-liter engine debuted for 2012. The Ralliart model was dropped after the 2015 model year, and the Lancer itself was discontinued after 2017.

The Mitsubishi Lancer was introduced for the 2002 model year as a compact four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan. The sole engine was a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that made 120 horsepower and could be paired with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. For 2004, Mitsubishi added a Lancer Sportback wagon body style and a sporty Ralliart trim with a 162-hp, 2.4-liter engine and sport-tuned suspension. All 2004 Lancers received a restyled front end, as well. The Sportback wagon was dropped for 2005, and 2006 brought another front-end styling refresh.
