2023 Subaru Outback review
2023 Subaru Outback Limited XT. A great station wagon (it’s not really a SUV). Comfortable leather seats, smooth ride and extremely quick with the turbo. If you don’t need seating for eight, you have no need for the Ascent. Same engine and cargo capacity and ground clearance, lower to the ground, faster, better handling and several thousand dollars cheaper. Standard all wheel drive. Full safety suite. 11.6” infotainment system is really closer to 8” as the climate control takes the additional 3.6”. The Harmon Kardon sound system will blow your doors off. Good in car navigation. Wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Hands free tailgate. 0-60 in 5.8 on regular gas. Standard roof rails. Even has heated outboard rear seats. If you’re considering a midsize or smaller SUV you owe it to yourself to drive this first.

2015 Subaru Outback review
I have a 1/3 mile driveway that climbs 400 feet from the street to my house. The Outback with good winter tires (I use Bridgestone Blizzaks) climbs this driveway with 10" of fresh snow on it like a mountain goat. And it's far better as a daily driver on summer days than anything else which would make that climb (4x4 pickup or a Jeep). 85K miles in six years and it's only been in the shop twice, once for a couple of recalls and once for a stuck power tailgate. One day and out both times. Only two gripes. With the 6 cyl mill the gas mileage is dismal, and the seats are too short for good thigh support (I believe they have improved the seats in the newer models)

2019 Subaru Outback review
Being disabled I was in the market for an accessible vehicle. With its wide doors and higher than average door and ride height coupled with a robust seat I was impressed with the level of ease and comfort while driving. It wasnt until a mishap sent me into a curb and then to a body shop. I got a rental....a higher end domestic SUV....it was at that moment I truly appreciated and sorely missed the build, ride ,performance and overall quality of my outback. I only have one negative thing to say about the outback and its the CVT....its the worst! Its the only weak link in an otherwise perfect vehicle. Subaru please reconsider and offer the outback with a standard transmission as a special order option.... I for one would be willing to pay extra for it.

2020 Subaru Outback review
I lucked into finding a returned leased 2020 Outback in July of 2022. Beautiful white exterior, drives like my '13 Legacy (handed down to my daughter, thus the new car for me!). Apparently Outbacks and Legacies have the same body frame, and driving this new Outback is a dream! This is my 4th Subaru and I absolutely, without a qualm, recommend them for handling, snow, comfort, style, cargo capability. After reading the reviews here, I can agree with two issues: battery and display screen. I also had a dead battery with no apparent reason. The dealership went over the car looking for a "battery draw," but found nothing wrong. They replaced it (under warrantee), and THE NEXT DAY the new battery was also dead. The explanation was this new battery had come from a warehouse and should have been charged before installation. No charge to me and no problems since, but definitely an inconvenience. The second drawback I would mention is the display screen. Way overwhelming, hard to find the functions to change driver assist et. al., and too difficult to drive while trying to change your heat, seat temp -- basic controls that should not require the driver to look down so much and for so long. No issues with operation of the screen. Finally, and maybe this was a one-off experience, I had to have the hood repainted because a leaf had left a weird stain right in the center of the hood. I cannot claim the stain was there when I got the car, but we tried every safe method (including wet sanding) to remove it and it was under the finish (according to the body shop). I'd venture to guess it came off the assembly line like that and it was fairly faint until you noticed it. Finally, I am strongly loyal to the dealership, as they have done right by me in many situations. They are fair, give me clear explanations and warn me about upcoming repairs, considerate, and have on more than one occasion checked a warrantee on my behalf to get me a better price.

2022 Subaru Outback review
I fell in love with the Wilderness Trim from the very first time i saw it. I had a 2017 Outback Limited and loved it too. Had a co-worker who really needed a reliable, well taken care of SUV. I told her I will sell it to her. With the money i got Wilderness. Best decision ever. Has that little extra ground clearance and details that makes this car so unique. Yes the screen is large and has a lot on it, but after a while got used to it. If the Outback was my dream car, This Wilderness is beyond my dreams! The Turbo is great, gives that extra +80HP compared to my Outback and it's noticeable specially when using paddle shifters. Hope i can keep this one for many many years.

Dropped off my 2018 Sonata cause the check engine light came on. A few days later got a text saying i needed a Engine Wire Harness + other items but totaling over 4k$. So i call to see if it was under warranty. They call the warranty people and say they will get back to me on Friday 1/19/2024. Friday they call and let me know car is ready to be picked up. I only paid 100+$ for oil change works package. Turns out the tech mixed up cars can you believe it? Just happy i dont got to pay a fortune to have it fixed.

Turn signals do not have a loud sound. They are very low My 2016 Outback has nice loud turn signals. You cannot turn your radio off. The only way not to hear it is to put the sound real low. Two major complaints I have

2015 Subaru Outback review
I bought used in 2023 a 2015 premium with 214k miles. I drove it 6k miles and only replaced the CV axle, this isn't impressive sounding but it was going through constant , aggressive off reading due to the rough road conditions I had to use because I live in the rocky mountains. I got in a rollover a 60 mph and I had no injuries, airbags kept me safe. Fuel economy was dismal with 21 in the city and 24 in the highway, safety and reliability are top tier, power was surprisingly adequate, the Bluetooth was appreciated and all the safety tech and other tech was very useable and helpful and accurate. Love the car would buy it again if I had the chance

2015 Subaru Outback review
I bought my 2015 3.6 Limited Outback in 2019. Had 59,000 mi on it. I have driven it 100,000 mi with a small amount of maintenance. Just replaced HID HEADLIGHT BULB…$300. Ouch! After sliding sideways down interstate in my full size van, I decided to research AWD and pick. I am so happy with my Outback, it performs so well in ice and snow. I like to go out and test its ability. At least I know what it will do on bad roads. 160,000 mi and drives like a new one. New tires are always a good help for wheels on pavement.

2024 Subaru Outback review
The acceleration lag that this car has is immediately outweighed by everything else. This car is super smooth and granny sedan comfy, and it has more utility than any equally priced SUV. The roof rails have built-in cross bars that stow, it tows 3500 pounds, and the Harmon-Kardon sound system kicks. It has butt fans, people. Additionally, the aftermarket base is thick, so accessories, customization, and reflashing options abound. The tech is old, the powertrain is old, but you see 300 of them a day for a reason.

2025 Subaru Outback review
I have had big trucks and SUV I now have a 2025 Outback wilderness, I had to drive this outback a while to get use to it, it was hard for me to get comfortable in this outback because it sat so low, for 60 years I had a vehicle sat up high and little more room in the front seat area,I got use to it, especially at the gas station with mpg I am getting , I am getting really right around 24 to 25 Mpg I am happy.Now that I have driven this outback for about 2 months I am happy, and in the Outback Wilderness it has the best AWD on the market not 4 wheel drive, never never let anybody tell you it is the same as 4 wheel drive If they do leave the dealership on the spot. I am happy I would buy again as long the price is 40k Or less if the price crosses the 45 k I would have gotten a Toyota 4 runner, not the 2025 models but the 2024 or 2023, remember these models are around 17 mpg with 23 gallon tanks with about 275 to 300 miles per tank

2026 Subaru Outback review
I have the 2026 Subaru Outback Premium. The car drives great (super smooth/quiet) and the new interior/driver controls are fantastic. Both the climate control and the entertainment system are vast improvement over the 2025 Outback. The sound system is really good for being the Premium model. I got 28 mpg on the first tank of gas and am getting 29 mpg on the second tank of gas. Mostly city driving. I paid right at $33k, which is fantastic value for this great of a car.

2026 Subaru Outback review
This is my third Subaru but my first Outback. I loved my Legacy and my Forester but this vehicle is overall better in most ways. The ride and comfort is outstanding and the performance is adequate for my needs. The Infotainment system and climate controls are perfect. The built-in navigation needs lots of changes and I wouldn't recommend it right now as it tells me to turn left when you need to turn right. It even sometimes shows the opposite direction on the map. The speed limits shown is often wrong as well like the maps are out of date. Wireless Android Auto doesn't work well either and often blanks out. I hope that these items will be fixed via updates. This vehicle is a pleasure to drive.

2018 Subaru Outback review
I have the 2018 Outback 3.6R Limited, at 110,000 miles I replaced all struts and wheel bearing, the ride still isn’t the best but air pressure in tires kept at 39 psi has improved the ride significantly. I had a 2021 with the 4 cylinder engine and the reason I got rid of it was the cvt is fragile and doesn’t handle much weight or towing plus the screen and push buttons for everything, very distracting when driving and looking for the right soft touch function. I have had much better results going backwards to the 2018 6 cylinder engine and heavy duty cvt. It uses a 5W30 engine oil which is a million times better than 0W20 which honestly is really thin and breaks down quickly.

2022 Subaru Outback review
Got a '22 Touring XT. I knew the base engine was pathetic so I wanted the turbo. Gladly sacrifice some MPG for way more power. They shouldn't even offer the base engine on this car. Anyway, after 44k miles it's running like a champ. Absolutely no issues with the electronics (a few minor glitches here and there but nothing to take to the dealer for), CVT is fine, engine is fine, the AWD is second to none! Plowed right through a 15" blizzard through Kansas City like it was nothing. My biggest gripe are the squeaks and rattles. Highly annoying. My '17 Chevy Colorado with 64k miles is tighter and quieter. Cargo space is top notch, I have a bad back so getting in and out of a taller vehicle is much easier. But there is just too much tech and driver assistance, Subaru needs to tone it down a little. I still prefer to actually DRIVE my car, not have the car drive me. Overall I'm still happy with it.

2022 Subaru Outback review
Slower than molasses in January if you don't get the turbo. But a reliable wagon that's absolutely awesome for parents. Plus, you can make up for the lack of speed by just running over stuff thanks to the ground clearance.

Some history before I get to my recent service that was done. Bought a used 2018 Hyundai Tuscon SE AWD, with Nu 2.0L GDI in July 2021 at Cochran South Hills Hyundai. Had a little over 22,000 miles. Originally went there to look at a used Santa Fe that was advertised online...was told they could not sell it to me as it did not meet some safety criteria. So ended up with the Tuscon (and also bought the EasyCare Gold Wrap extended warranty - extending bumper to bumper for 10 years 100,000 miles from original sale date in 2018). I purchased another Hyundai because I have a 2009 Elantra with about 170,000 miles on it and only did routine maintenance (aside from timing chain, water pump, plugs around 100,000-which is considered routine). It is still going. At some point in 2023, I had to take it back for a recall software update (Done at Monroeville Cochran Hyundai). I asked the gentleman at the service desk about what seemed to me to be an excessive consumption of oil. He said that Hyundai used less than 1 quart consumption within 1000 miles was deemed acceptable. (Surprised me that was acceptable as I NEVER had a vehicle that used that much oil!!). I did have and earlier recall software update in 2022 (this may have been the update with anti-theft updates). That was done at a Hyundai dealer near Columbus, OH. After they did repairs as the vehicle WAS stolen and recovered a few days later and repairable. Onto my recent service for my vehicle completed at Cochran Monroeville Hyundai: My daughter was driving back from Cleveland on 4/11/26. About 50 miles from Pittsburgh on the turnpike, the vehicle went into some type of a 'protection' mode and would not go over 50-55 mph. I don't believe there were any warning lights on, but that was several months ago. Told her to get in right hand lane and put on 4-way flashers and go to Cochran Monroeville (about 1 mile off turnpike) and I would meet her there. This was a Saturday before service closed at 3pm (a little over 81,000 miles on it at this point). They looked at everything and determined the catalytic converter was clogged. That was installed and corporate Hyundai covered 90% and I covered 10% of the cost (little over $300). In my opinion, this was likely due to excessive oil consumption. Also asked for a few other 'routine' maintenance items to be completed for that level of mileage. Picked up the vehicle on 4/16/26. Also asked to start an 'oil consumption' test, as I had been keeping track of oil that was added between changes for the last 4-5 months - varied based on miles driven when checked, but was definitely more than 1 quart/1000 miles. Oil consumption test is 3 parts (simplified, and all steps need to get corporate approval prior to starting): 1. Dealership changes oil/filter and adds tamper seals to filter/drain plug. I drive the vehicle for up to about 1000 miles (or less if oil level is near 1 quart low) and see who much oil was used. 2. If greater than 1 quart/1000 miles (taken back to dealer to verify amount), a 'top engine/combustion chamber' cleaning is done. Oil/filter are changed and tamper seals added. 3. The 2nd round of driving up to 1000 miles is done and vehicle is taken back to dealer for verification. If consumption is greater than 1000 miles/quart - new short block is installed. On April 11, 2026 when we initially pulled in, Melissa Warner was my Service Advisor and continued to be my point of contact throughout the duration of the 3 steps. I only have good things to say about Melissa, she helped getting the catalytic converter being 90% covered. She followed through each step of the consumption test, constantly staying in touch via phone or text. If I called or text her, she would reply the same day or at latest, next day. It was a long process, especially having to drive the vehicle for the two mileage tests. But in the end, a new short block was installed. I have no problem using Cochran Monroeville.

2025 Subaru Outback review
I have owned Subaru wagons both used and new from 1984 until present. I own a 2012 Subaru Outback Limited 2.5 which I bought new. It has 220,000 miles. Other than routine maintenance and a couple rear wheel bearings, it is doing great! I also own a 2025 Subaru Outback Limited 2.5, I currently have 24,000 miles in it. Only real nuisances are the center tablet and no buttons or dials for hvac. It’s frankly a safety issue to play with a screen just to change hvac settings-dumb. 2026 they got smarter but changed the style for the worse. Additionally, the OEM tires are starting to sing at 24,000 miles. The first 24k the car was whisper quiet. Now I have to blast the radio to drown out the hum. Subaru needs to quit playing with cheap OEM tires. Throw a set of Michelins on there to start… The seats are comfortable-a great improvement over the seat design used from 2015-2019. I got rid of a new 2017 Outback after 95,000 miles because the seating was like sitting on slate. A complaint I have is the overuse of “safety nannies” which are too sensitive and could cause an accident rather than prevent one. Case in point, car can slam on the brakes for you if it thinks you are doing something abnormal that you probably do all the time. I dislike the 8 speed trans. My 6 speed is better on the 2012. 8 speeds are too many. No issues shifting or anything, CVT “shifts” fine. I still get 30 mpg Hwy on the 2012 and 32-34 on the 2025 Hwy. Subarus are wonderful vehicles but they better watch out so they don’t get too much more expensive or start following the crowd too much. Cars in general are too high priced…

2023 Subaru Outback review
The Touring XT has all the bells and whistles of a luxury SUV for a lower price point. The extra turbo thrust is impressive! It has a very comfortable ride for long trips.

2022 Subaru Outback review
I purchased my Outback Premium in 2022 new. Liked the color. silver, and didn't want moonroof or a lot of extras that could break. Bad battery experience has really disappointed our experience although the cars performance and comfort has not.

2026 Subaru Outback review
This is my second Subaru Outback. I loved the 2017 & this one is even better. The improved eyesight is nice & the backup camera is wonderful. The extension on the visor is a small but quite helpful.

2018 Subaru Outback review
I bought my outback new in March 2018. After putting about 85,000 miles on it the only thing I had ever replaced for windshield tires and battery. The battery seems to go out most often every 30,000 miles or two years at about 85,000 miles we had an oil pan leak that was small but we had it repaired since it was covered under extended warranty. I’ve also had water leak into the drivers door, electronics and shorted out my driver‘s window. The Travers side seat bolster of leather, has also ripped and torn quite badly. However, I have not done a very good job at keeping it up overall it’s been a very good vehicle. Written April 5th 2026.
